Tuttosport: Milan ready to sell €38m winger as Pioli considers change in formation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have decided to put winger Suso up for sale after a disappointing first half of the season, according to a report.

The Spaniard has struggled to begin the 2019-20 campaign, amassing a goal and two assists but failing to replicate his usual levels of performance and seemingly relinquishing his title as the Rossoneri’s most creative player.

The arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic was expected to help, but Suso put in arguably his worst performance of the season on Monday in the 0-0 draw with Sampdoria, scoring a 4/10 in our player ratings.

According to Wednesday’s edition of Tuttosport – as cited by MilanNews.it – the time has come to make drastic decisions at Milan because it is clear that the project has failed, and Suso could fall victim to this.

At present, the 26-year-old is viewed as more of a problem than a resource for the Diavolo, and the solution could be his departure either in January or in the summer.

It is worth nothing that he arrived in a low-cost deal, so would represent an almost pure capital gain on the balance sheet, and it is widely reported that he has a €38m release clause.

To eliminate Suso from the starting line-up, Stefano Pioli could “exploit” the arrival of Ibrahimovic and choose to change formation from a 4-3-3 to 4-3-1-2 – ironically the system that saw previous head coach Marco Giampaolo sacked.

Ibrahimovic and Rafael Leao would be the forwards, with either Hakan Calhanoglu or Giacomo Bonaventura in behind.
