Tuttosport: Milan could open talks with Villarreal over loan recall – the latest

By Isak Möller -

Matteo Gabbia was sent to Villarreal on a season-long loan in the summer, which was a way for AC Milan to get the Samuel Chukwueze deal over the line. However, as a report claims, they could try to get him back already in January.

Milan are struggling with several injuries in the defensive department, forced to play Theo Hernandez as a centre-back against Frosinone. The Frenchman did really well, but it’s clear that the Rossoneri need him in the left-back position as well.

Pierre Kalulu, Simon Kjaer, Marco Pellegrino and Malick Thiaw are currently sidelined and while the Dane could be back soon, a reinforcement is more or less necessary. According to Tuttosport, as cited by MilanNews, Milan could reach out to Villarreal regarding Gabbia.

The 24-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Milan, has made eleven appearances in all competitions for Villarreal this season. However, the playing time has not been that consistent and the Rossoneri could thus try to end the loan early.

It would certainly be an ’emergency solution’ but considering Milan’s situation, it would make a lot of sense to bring the Italian back early. Of course, they would need to get the permission of Villarreal, whose stance is unclear at the moment.

  1. I like Gabbia. He’s been part of Milan all his life. Bring him back, please. Historically, he’s always done pretty good when needed regardless of which central partnership he’s linked up with.
