Tuttosport: Milan to evaluate three goalkeepers if Maignan is sold – the list

By Ben Dixon -

Interest in Mike Maignan is likely to be high during the summer mercato, and AC Milan are aware of this. As a result, the Rossoneri are beginning to create a list of targets in case the Frenchman leaves the club.

Earlier today, it was reported that Maignan might leave the club in the summer if Milan follow their actions of last year by selling a key player to add funds to their budget. It is worth noting that he is not by any means ‘for sale’.

Instead, the Diavolo’s position is that if an offer came in that matched their €80 million valuation of the Frenchman, considering his contract situation and desire to invest in other areas of the squad, it would be difficult to say no.

As a result, Tuttosport (via MilanNews) have reported that if Milan were to sell Maignan, they would look at three goalkeepers to replace him.

Firstly, Michele Di Gregorio, the 27-year-old who has been among the best in the division this season, and as a result, there is a lot of respect for him amongst the senior figures at the club, there are no negotiations currently, but he has the approval of Milan and also Juventus and Inter – he would cost around €20m.

Alternatively, the Rossoneri would consider Alex Meret of Napoli or Josep Martinez from Genoa.

  1. I think either Di Gregorio or Carnesecchi.
I don’t rate Meret at all, and the Genoa guy I’ve never heard of, but he might be good

      1. me too, but more like Carneschi or DiGregorio,
        – Muso is good GK too so Atalanta doesn’t need urgent replacement,
        – Monza doesn’t need to sell so they will ask big price (profit + replacement budget)
        – DiG want back to Inter (Sommer getting old)

  2. No we don’t need signing of Goal keeper mirante is Good so I prefer mirante I watch some couples of his match he is too Good better than sportiello

    1. This must be trolling or sarcasm. Mirante??? LOL. Mirante shouldn’t even be the third goalie, much less the starting one. By the way, Pioli has been calling up Nava as the 3rd goalkeeper so Mirante is 4th in the pecking order, and this poster wants him to be the starting goalie? Unreal…

  3. Milan have so many options to replace Mike Maignan. David de Gea is a free agent and only 33yrs old.

Udinese Okoye is another low cost option and he is a very talented goalkeeper who we can sign for 10m or less due to his current market value.

Meret contract will expire this season so he will be a free agent.

These are the two best options in my opinion due to the low cost. In my opinion milan should also get Udinese goalkeeper Okoye even as a backup. In another season or two he will be a bargain signing for Milan for years to come.

Carnesecchi is a good goalkeeper and better than Di Gregorio in opinion but either one is also a good option.

  4. We also shouldn’t discount the rise of Raveyre. He might be ready to just slot in, or spend a season as number 2 behind Sportiello and then assume the number 1 role. One season of Sportiello as no.1 while Raveyre continues to mature might not be the worst.

    1. If Raveyre is strong enough, maybe it would be better to get him on loan (even to a Serie B team) or U23 to play every week.

Also I haven’t seen enough of Raveyre other than a few penalties to know how strong he’s in the other GK fundamentals, but we had high hopes for Jungdal, Desplanches … heck some people were saying that Plizzari was better than Donnaruma when compared for the same age.
