Ismael Bennacer will be out for at least six months and that means it is now necessary for AC Milan to sign at least one midfielder.
It was known that the injury he suffered in the first leg defeat to Inter was serious, but the fact that cartilage was involved and an operation was needed means that there is a real chance he is not back to full fitness until 2024.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara planned to sign a new midfielder in the summer anyway, but now two might be needed given the length of his absence.
Daichi Kamada is an option for the playmaker role that the Algerian had been playing before his knee issue. His contract with Eintracht Frankfurt is about to expire and he will therefore move for free in the summer.
The Japan international – who can play both as a box-to-box midfielder and as an attacking midfielder like Bennacer – is liked by several teams, including Napoli, but it seems Milan are on pole position.
Kamada is not the only name being considered though, as Tommaso Baldanzi from Empoli is also on the list even if he is more of a pure trequartista.
In terms of targets for the double pivot role, Seko Fofana of RC Lens and Bayer Leverkusen’s Exequiel Palacios are liked, while Renato Sanches is set to leave PSG and a new move cannot be ruled out after the attempts last summer.
Who wants to bet Kamada won’t come if/when no UCL for Milan next season? I guess the same applies to all players who would definitely lift the quality of the team.
