Tuttosport: Competition and €60m price tag – Milan’s striker pursuit complicated

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a strong interest in signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in the summer but it will not be an easy pursuit, according to a report.

As Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) writes this morning, Milan will have to look for a striker who can be the long-term heir to Olivier Giroud once the transfer window reopens, especially because the Frenchman – whose contract is expiring – could decide to try a new experience outside of European football.

The name that is being mentioned the most is that of Zirkzee, the Bologna striker who is showing himself to be one of the brightest talents in Serie A given that he has 10 league goals and is guiding the Rossoblu towards a top four spot.

However, his development has also attracted the attention of Premier League sides who are starting to keep an eye on him, and of course have substantial economic power.

For example, a few weeks ago there was a scout from Arsenal at the Stadio Olimpico to watch him score against Lazio. Against Atalanta, Zirkzee scored in front of a Manchester United scout.

Zirkzee is now worth around €60m having cost Bologna €8.5m. Bayern Munich also have a say in this, because they have a 40% resale clause or they could actually buy him back for €40m.

However, the Dutchman sees the Premier League or a big Serie A team as being the right next step for his career. Milan have had him in their sights since October with director Geoffrey Moncada having scouted him in person twice.

The other Italian club that are keen are Napoli, who are expecting to have to replace Victor Osimhen during the summer.

  1. 60M is kinda hefty.
Maybe we should have an operation with Bayern involving Mike who seems to be on his way out if he doesn’t renew.

  2. I don’t understand the obsession with Zirkzee. First of all he’s not a striker and it is the first time behe’s playing as a lone striker. One freaking decent season. He’s a support striker and it was Motta who convinced him to play as a lone striker and he is not a 40m or 60m player.

Zirkzee would be a better fit for AM. Milan needs a number 9 like Viktor Gyökeres.

    1. Just some guidance before you write any more of this nonsense:

      – Gyökeres is valued at 45 millions on transfermarkt.

      – He has 100 millions release clause.

      – He plays for Sporting meaning they won’t let him for any less than minimum 70 millions.

      – I suppose Serie A experience just come naturally to some, like Chuk or CdK for example right?

      Chill.

    2. It really is crazy!
He has 10 goals in 27 league games, 2 of those are penalties. So that is 8 goals from play in 27 games!!

They are some very average numbers.

I agree with you he is a 2nd striker and that is not what we need, it’s like getting another CDK .

We have enough creative players, we need a number 9

    3. Retegui has some good numbers after coming back from injury, his stats arent really far off from Zirkzee plus he plays in a much weaker team. I would rather get him if Zirkze cost is 60mil now. Also there are other undiscovered jems out there, to bad we dont have a scouting team who knows what they are doing like some other seria A teams.

  3. At that point, we should be looking at guys like Gyökeres or Gimenez. ‘Cause if it’s between Zirkzee for €60m and Gyökeres/Gimenez for €75m, I’m taking the latter.

  4. Skip if 60m euro. One good season like belotti in the past . ACM lucky dodge that belotti bullet. Zirkzee only worth 20-30m euro
