Tuttosport: The new Morata deputy – Okafor overtakes Jovic in Fonseca’s hierarchy

Noah Okafor is now viewed as AC Milan’s backup striker by Paulo Fonseca rather than Luka Jovic with the Serbian not currently impressing the new coach.

As reported by Tuttosport (via Milan News), Okafor could be set for a much better season with Milan than he had in 2023/24 under Stefano Pioli.

Okafor struggled with injuries during his first season with the club but he did make an impact occasionally from the bench.

He has clearly retained that knack as he came off the bench in the season opener against Torino and scored the equalising goal in what was a very positive cameo.

That performance has helped move him ahead of Luka Jovic in the pecking order at Milan, with Alvaro Morata being the first-choice striker when fit.

For that reason, Okafor is expected to start the match against Parma on Saturday with Morata out injured, and Jovic will take a place on the bench. The Serbian was much more effective from the bench than from the start last season.

Okafor also brings some versatility as he can be used on the wings if there are plenty of injuries, whereas Jovic is only able to play as the central striker in this Milan team.
