Tuttosport: Motta and van Bommel still in the running for Milan job – the latest

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are evaluating the post-Stefano Pioli era and several names have been mentioned, above all Julen Lopetegui. However, according to a report his morning, the Spaniard isn’t the only manager on the list.

Lopetegui appears to be the favourite for the job, highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport once again this morning, but the fans have expressed their disappointment with the rumours. Nothing has been decided yet, therefore, and a few more names are in the running still.

According to Tuttosport, as cited by MilanNews, Thiago Motta and Mark van Bommel are still on the Rossoneri’s radar and they have not been ruled out fully yet. The Bologna man is also in talks with Juventus and then situation is thus complicated, but a lot can still happen.

As for van Bommel, it looks like he will leave Royal Antwerp at the end of this season and Milan are keeping tabs on the situation. The 47-year-old knows Zlatan Ibrahimovic very well and his success with the Belgian side shouldn’t be underestimated.

      1. Maybe I’m getting carried away but he just seems like such a perfect fit. Everything about him makes sense for what RedBird is wanting to do. I mean he can make Saelemaekers shine! THE SALADMAKER!

I can only imagine what he could do with our core…

        1. I agree, he seems like the perfect fit for what Red bird wants and aperently can afford. Thats why they should have acted much sooner. I still hope we get him, but now is far more complicated with Juve and United also considering him.

        2. 3 goals and two assists isn’t exactly “shining”, but I take your point. I’m watching the Bologna-Udinese game and he just scored again but it was totally a cross that happened to go in. On another note, I’m impressed by Zirkzee’s hold up plays and ball control skills. If we’d only had that at no. 9….

        3. Agreed.

Based on Redbird’s (cheap) model it makes sense and is who we should get. I think he would do well and would definitely bring us closer to getting Zirkzee

  1. Motta is already on his way to Juve, we should just concentrate on Van Brommel, the ultras need to understand, this management will never appoint Conte…

    1. Van might be the perfect fit.

He played in and won the Dutch Eredivisie with PSV, Spanish La Liga with Barcelona, German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, and Italian Serie A with Milan. Between 2000 and 2011, he won eight national championship titles in four competitions: four with PSV, two with Bayern, one with Barcelona and one with Milan. Van Bommel won the 2005–06 UEFA Champions League with Barcelona and was Bayern’s first foreign captain. At Bayern, he led the team to two Bundesliga titles, and finished runner-up in the 2010 UEFA Champions League Final.

This guy is a serial winner.

As a coach he won too.

      Get him

    2. Thuram was “on his way” to Milan until Marotta stepped in 🙂 Clearly that doesn’t mean sh!t.

If there’s a will, there’s a way. Ibra & Co just need to focus on what’s important here.

  2. Midfielders make better coaches. Just look at Guardiola, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Capello, Alex Ferguson, Rijkaard, Trapattoni, Amorim. I can go on and on with midfielders who were pass players who later became great coaches.

So I wouldn’t have a problem with Motta or Mark Van Bommel as coach of AC Milan.

  3. What’s the point of your write up.
Ziontrain did not say ALL midfielders made great coaches. You just cherry picked the few that are not as famous.
