It is still not clear what formation AC Milan are going to start the 2023/24 with as there is scope for something different from 2022/23, a report highlights.
As pointed out by Tuttosport (via Milan News), Stefano Pioli could decide to use a 4-3-3 formation when the new Serie A season gets underway, rather than the tried and tested 4-2-3-1.
The transfer moves from Milan so far this summer suggest that there could be more focus on deeper-lying midfielders rather than players that could directly replace Brahim Diaz.
This lends itself to a 4-3-3 formation given there will be Ismael Bennacer, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tommaso Pobega, Rade Krunic and potentially Tijjani Reijnders in the squad, none of which naturally play behind the striker.
Milan have got a friendly against Lumezzane on Thursday and that could be the first clear sign as to what formation Piioli has been working towards in training with his team over the past few weeks.
With very strong teams we must use best players and maybe more compact defence, to stop losing 3 0 against Inter, 4 0 Lazio and both games against Chelsea. So in imagination could be 4 3 3 . Against some “weaker” clubs use of De Keteleare as CAM and 4 2 3 1 should be more optional.
It remains a mystery, because we still need two more midfielders and a striker, and Pioli will set up the style of play depending on who we get. This debate about 433 vs 4231 is pointless at this moment and is getting tiring.
Let’s just focus on who’s Milan trying to get at the moment and wait for the US tour to give us the answers that y’all so desperately need.

433 but with slightly advanced playmaker instead of regista. Some kind of hybrid between 4231 and 433. Bennacer instead of Reijnders when he comes back. Hope that missing link in midfield will be Dominguez. But probably Musah.
We had been so predictable in the past season, so a hybrid formation will serve us well and give serius headaches to all the opponents

No mystery here, it’s gonna be a 4-2-3-1. Don’t be surprised to see Loftus-Cheek in the AMC position
Doesn’t have to be one system fixed. Depending on players available I don’t see why we can’t switch from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3.
