Tuttosport: Numbers show Calhanoglu’s importance – even with time missed he is among the league’s best

By Oliver Fisher -

You don’t have to be big on stats to understand how important Hakan Calhanoglu is to AC Milan, but the numbers certainly show it anyway.

As this morning’s edition of Tuttosport writes (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri’s No.10 has become an absolutely crucial cog in the 4-2-3-1 machine that Stefano Pioli has brought together, and the numbers certify the importance of the Turkish playmaker.

Hakan has registered six assists in Serie A so far this season, as many as Marcelo Brozovic and Dries Mertens and behind only Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Calhanoglu also has 43 shots (10th-most in the current season) and 14 key passes (fourth-most after De Paul, Ilicic and Berardi).

As an attacking midfielder, the paper writes, only Calhanoglu transforms into reality all the wishes of Pioli’s 4-2-3-1. Now, of course, the burning issue is the renewal of the 26-year-old given his contract expires at the end of the current season.
