Tuttosport: Pioli’s future to be decided within a month – how he could earn a renewal

There has been a lot of speculation about the future of Stefano Pioli in recent weeks, and at the moment the reports that are emerging suggest that he is likely to remain in charge.

Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) write this morning that Pioli has always been publicly backed by president Paolo Scaroni, by CEO Giorgio Furlani and also by Zlatan Ibrahimović, the RedBird consultant and Gerry Cardinale’s right-hand man.

At the end of the win against Fiorentina, Pioli was asked about his future at Milan and the idea that he might walk away himself once the season is done. His response was a passionate one as he professed his love for the club and his desire to remain.

He has surpassed Arrigo Sacchi in the ranking of most games managed with 230 and he wants to continue his adventure at Milan. But until when?

Pioli still has no certainty, to date, that he will still be Milan’s coach in the 2024-25 season because the results from here until the end of the season will weigh a lot. However, is undeniable that the leadership currently thinking of moving forward with him.

His work, from 2019 to today, has been highly appreciated and he has a strong connection with the management and a solid relationship with his players. Therefore, Milan and Pioli should move forward together , albeit leaving an asterisk linked to the Europa League tie against Roma.

Milan would like to confirm Pioli simply until the natural expiry of his contract, set for 30 June 2025, so the topic of a renewal is not currently on their agenda. If that were the case, Pioli would start the new season with less than a year on his deal.

It is an anomaly in Italy, but not so much for a US ownership. The Europa League could become a factor in this story because if he were to win it – likely beating Leverkusen or Liverpool along the way – he could earn a new deal.
