Tuttosport: Pioli opts for no rotation against Lecce despite upcoming Roma clash

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Lecce at San Siro today, hoping to boost their confidence ahead of the first leg against Roma on Thursday. As highlighted by a report, Stefano Pioli has opted against rotation, keen on fielding the best team.

The Rossoneri have the opportunity to extend their winning run to seven games this afternoon, which would indeed be impressive. However, with the first Europa League quarter-final against Roma scheduled for Thursday, some would have perhaps expected rotation.

If you are looking to get to the big game at San Siro next week, then you should check out Europa League tickets for AC Milan.

As highlighted by Tuttoport (via MilanNews), this will not be the case as the strongest possible team – more or less – will step onto the San Siro pitch today. The likes of Malick Thiaw, Ismael Bennacer and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will get some rest, but not because of a technical decision by Pioli.

During his press conference yesterday, Pioli made it very clear that Milan will take it game-by-game in this season finale: “The focus is only on tomorrow’s match. If there are changes, they will be due to situations I saw during the week, not because of Roma. There is time to recover for that game”.

One can understand Pioli’s reasoning as they cannot afford to lose the momentum now. Furthermore, there will be four full days to recover energy for the Roma clash, after all.

  1. Last game was a week ago. Plenty of rest. Not like he is choosing to not rotate having played 3 days ago…

    It’s fine.
