Tuttosport: Pobega and Kjaer hoping to seize their opportunity against Sassuolo

By Oliver Fisher -

This evening’s game between Sassuolo and AC Milan will provide  a great opportunity for two players to show their worth to the squad, a report claims.

Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) reports that Stefano Pioli will opt for rotation in the game against Sassuolo given the upcoming games again Inter in the league (Saturday) and the first match in the Champions League away against Red Bull Salzburg (next Tuesday).

As a result, Simon Kjaer and Tommaso Pobega are expected to start in defence and midfield respectively. For the Danish centre-back it will be a return after almost nine months out following the rupture of the cruciate ligaments in his left knee sustained during the game against Genoa on 1 December 2021.

Kjaer played in the friendly against Olympique Marseille and an hour of the one against Pergolettese but has zero minutes in official competitions, though today he will partner Fikayo Tomori.

Pobega meanwhile came off the bench and played 36 minutes in the home matches against Udinese and Bologna. He will replace Sandro Tonali alongside Ismaël Bennacer, and should play more of a box-to-box role.

It is a chance for the Italian to show that he has grown after his loan spell at Torino and to prove he should be a regular part of the rotation even if a new signing may arrive.

  1. In the last two seasons pobega has played 53 serie a games and scored ten goals and assisting 6 times in a combined 3475 minutes which then would equate to 38.611 matches played and that for struggling teams. Pretty confident that pobega will be a great success over time if he gets the right amount of minutes to prove himself.

    1. Yes. He’s already proven to be Serie A -material. Now it’s up to him (and Pioli) to show he is Milan-worthy as well. I’m rooting for him.

      1. same here bb, and why wouldnt we.

        – Guy has proven himself at smaller stuggling teams
        – Got his international debut recently
        – Has amased some decent stats
        – Is two footed
        – Homegrown
        – long contract
        – 23 years old with lots of potential

Everything speaks for that he will eventually become a regular at the club

  2. Where are all the Pobega is better than Kessie fans? Been quiet these days 😂😂😂 he got the better of Kessie in a couple duels in one game and ppl crowned him the next coming lol. Not saying Pobega is bad and hope he does well but he really needs to get in shape. Was never nowhere near Kessie

    1. Who gives a ratass about Kessie? He’s no longer a Milan player and probably does not even count as a legend. Yes, he had his moments and probably is a good player, but he has made his choice. He is history. If you can’t support Pobega, then you shouldn’t be supporting Milan.

No two players are ever the same. Milan management knew that and always stated they weren’t looking for a new Kessie. Milan appreciates unique individuals who bring their own uniqueness to the team. Pobega is homegrown and can gradually become a key part of the team like Calabria.

      1. I give a rats as. He helped us win the Scudetto. Don’t let your hate for Kessie consume you ,😁 also reading is fundamental. Never said I didn’t like Pobega. Read again

    2. Still here! Pobega CRUSHED Kessie in both matches last season. Pobega will get his chance to prove himself. The season is long and he only has a handful of matches in the Rossoneri-shirt.

As if Kessie was a superstar in his first 3-4 Milan matches… 😛

  3. Forza Pobega. Sincerely hope he’ll proof his worth. Sooner or later. If we have a patience towards Kessie and H***n (censored automatically), we should have the same faith with him. Moreover he’s a true Milanista.

  4. Yay and Nay for you bb 😂😂
He didn’t crush Kessie, he won two duels which when you’re on camera looks great but the last 20mins of the game Kessie was dominant (in the 0-0 game, after Kessie came back from a slight injury as he only played like 20mins previous game vs Bologna so was rusty). I also remembered him losing a heading fuel to Krunic who headed just wide…Lord Krunic! Kessie and Tonali tracked all of his runs as he was playing a more advanced role that game. For the 1-0 game I didn’t see much from Pobega that wowed me. He was quite ordinary. I think, maybe not u, but alot of ppl carry a Kessie hate so if someone happens to play well against him it sort gets blown out of proportion. I think I’ll rewatch both games if I can.

I do agree with the last part though. I’m hoping with time and Pioli coaching he can become as good as K. I can’t figure out why he’s so poor fitness-wise to start this season
