Tuttosport: RedBird put their stamp on Milan – Fonseca and Bonera the first appointments

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are heading into a summer of overhaul given that they will name a new first team head coach, a new Primavera head coach and a first coach of the U23 team.

Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) reports this morning that Paulo Fonseca will be the man entrusted with taking over from Stefano Pioli, while Daniele Bonera is who the management have chose to become the U23 team should one be registered in Serie C.

RedBird Capital – who became the owner of Milan on 31 August 2022 – decided to keep Pioli in charge and not put their own stamp on things instantly, especially given that he was fresh from winning the Scudetto.

Now, however, Gerry Cardinale’s fund will make the first managerial appointments of their ownership era. The announcement of Fonseca should come soon as the Portuguese won the ‘primary elections’ within Casa Milan, emerging among dozens of candidates.

He will have to sweep away all the skepticism that the fans have towards him but, above all, bring Milan back to competing with Inter for the Scudetto. A new striker and some other pieces will help him do that.

Then there is Bonera, the former Rossoneri defender who was part of Pioli’s staff in recent years. He will lead the Under 23 team as mentioned, and Jovan Kirovski is already working on the team as the director chosen by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
