Tuttosport: Sale of Hauge expected to result in Milan accelerating pursuit of winger

AC Milan are ready to make a move for Josip Ilicic of Atalanta as soon as the sale of Jens Petter Hauge has gone through, a report claims.

According to the latest from Tuttosport (via MilanNews), there is a market axis that is developing which involves the signing Ilicic and the exit of Hauge. Milan are expected to accelerate their pursuit of the Atalanta forward only when official departure of Hauge to Eintracht occurs.

Calciomercato.com are reporting that a new adventure in the Bundesliga is waiting for Hauge where he can show off all his indisputable talent, after a season in which he amassed five goals in his first campaign away from Bodo/Glimt.

After a long and laborious negotiation, Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached a total agreement on a figure of €12m, which is €8m more than the amount paid by Elliott Management to sign him from the Norwegian side in October of last year.

  1. Well, this is the reasonable transfer, given the economic circumstances. Ilicic – in, Hauge – out. A short term solution for a potential long term solution. Let’s hope Maldini is right doing this transfer. All in all, this seems an upgrade in the quality of the team

  2. I try to understand the logic of all club decisions, but if the capital gain from Hauge goes into Ilicic, a player who will have no resale value, then I have to question what their strategy is here and it reeks of short-termism.

If that money was put towards Vlasic, a potential investment in another young player, I’d comprehend it, but this is baffling.

The only logical explanation I can think is that they think Ilicic is a key to UCL qualification this season (which I’d question) and that’s their gamble.

    1. If this move pans out as stated, I would think it is purely an attempt to improve the squad for the upcoming season or two. I personally am of the belief that it would. This definitely is not a long-term plan.

    2. Totally agree. To make it worse, this is a LOAN w obligation to buy and not a direct sale. So we will not see that “huge” 8m profit until next summer. And to invest it in Illic?? A player nobody wants (unless on a free) and at best at this stage in his career is a back-up makes no sense. We will be lucky to finish 6th this year. So sad

  3. I think Illicic would be a nice complement to Saelemaekers. That said Milan should try to wait out Atalanta. 3 million for an unwanted older player seems fair hopefully Milan will not get too anxious and over pay.
