Tuttosport: Signs of discontent grow at Milan but Pioli is in control

By Euan Burns -

The signs of discontent among the AC Milan squad under Stefano Pioli are only growing but the coach still has a firm handle on the situation, a report claims.

As has been reported by Tuttosport (via Pianeta Milan), the anger that both Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao showed against Napoli when they were taken off by Pioli is a hint that all is not well in the dressing room right now.

Milan were top of Serie A just a month ago and all seemed well, but an increase in injuries and a drop in form both domestically and in Europe has seen the mood around the club sour.

Despite this, there is no suggestion that Pioli won’t be given the time and space to arrest this bad form. One key factor, though, is making it into the round of 16 of the Champions League, which looks to be a very tough task from here.

  1. Remember Milan before Ibra came? We’re somewhere there. He made sure he was the only ego in the team and kept all these lads under control. Now everyone wants to impose their ego on this team, specifically Leao and Theo thinking they’re the leaders. Well they’re not. They are weak and Leao showed us just how immature and weak he actually is. Sacking Maldini, a father figure, also impacted this team.

Character and leadership qualities is just something equations and data analysis can’t give.

    1. Shhhh 🤫not Maldini. It’s a bad word around these parts. 🤭 As you mentioned leadership, it also sucks for Kjaer who had issues with management over the summer, so I’m pretty sure he doesn’t feel as included as he once was (probably due to the air of dispensability around the club).
Man I hope Ibra DON’T comeback. I really want to see the credentials of FMP.

    2. i dont buy that for a second just because they were both in the club last season and last season we finished 5th.
I’ll also add that if there was discontent in no way would the team played like they played in the first 45min vs napoli. I’ve seen clubs with a discontent squad and how they look on the pitch. Milan is not there at all!

        1. I disagree it’s performing quite a bit better than last year. Already the midfield is on pace to generate and convert more progressive passes than last year. And if you’re trying to convince us this midfield looks worse than last years you’re delusional. None of the squads issues come from midfield. Instead injuries, attack and stupid mental errors from defenders have hurt Milan. But you have a documented history on here of ignoring certain truths to push your “everyone at the club sucks” agenda
