Tuttosport: ‘Surprise summer goalkeeper’ – Torriani’s stock rises in America

By Ben Dixon -

Lorenzo Torriani’s stock has seen a substantial rise this summer, and there are questions about his future position within the AC Milan goalkeeper hierarchy, following his impressive pre-season.

For the Primavera, Torriani was not a starting goalkeeper, and he was not even a second choice, as Tuttosport (via Milan News) recalls. However, this could change vastly in the coming season.

In all three of Milan’s pre-season games, he has made important saves, and following Marco Sportiello’s injury, there could be a position open within the first team, and Torriani could be the one to take that spot.

Torriani has impressed the Rossoneri set-up with Fonseca now facing an important decision, but he has also been praised by Ancelotti, and Guardiola’s admiration of the youngster rose once again following an impressive performance against Manchester City.

As Tuttosport states, it was earlier this year when the goalkeeper was a third-choice ‘keeper for the Primavera squad, and there is a genuine chance that he could start the season as the senior team’s third-choice.

From decisive saves to impressive confidence with the ball at his feet, it may be a talent for Milan to nurture, and being a part of the senior squad’s goalkeeper union could push his development at a fantastic rate.

  1. I’d be wise to make him 3rd GK. Think about what he’d learn from training with Mike. Dude can mentor his replacement

  2. For me, it is a positive sign shown by Fonseca. Hey, I was one of (maybe) many who weren’t sure about his quality. And I know it is not fair as well to give credits only based on 2 B-team good friendly games. But I mean, Fonseca shows a positive sign and seems not have trust issue unlike Pioli, and I hope he will perform well during season.

  3. @Admin can you do a comparative analysis of the young GKs we have at AC Milan ?
    Nava vs Reveyre vs Torrianni.

Or if any regular commentors can provide an unbiased comparison, would appreciate it very much

  4. Italy is more conservative on such gambles. I feel Italy and more so our Milan youngsters can be amazing, but we are too scared. Spain is less so; U think Pedri or Yamal would’ve played for any italian team? no. Or vice versa, Camarda would probably be starting 11 next year at barcelona.
Not saying that’s how it should be. When it fails, coaches get fired and the young player for the most part dissapears with a bad career.

  5. By skill and temperament he seems an exciting candidate.

However, like Camarda, Liberali, etc his physique is simply not there as a kid.

In open play id expect him to be quite good. On any corner though he gets bullied off the ball as being 20kg lighter than a typical keeper he’d be to easy for the men to move around.

I do believe as a GK he should be training with first team for exactly that reason. He will see where he needs to bulk up and do the work accordingly. He will learn leverage against aggressive giants in practice like Thiaw, Pavlovic and th more subtle dark arts from those like Morata and Jovic.

I don’t see any reason for him to ride the pine in Futuro. If he can improve the physique in first team then he goes down and starts consistently for the rest of the season.

  6. Lapo is presumable more ready having trained with the first team more, yet Fonseca puts his faith in Torriani…. Says something about both of them.

Give minutes based on merit. Torriani vs Lapo for the 3rd GK is cool. “Baptism” by fire!
