Tuttosport: The two key reasons Milan are persisting with Zaniolo deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a concrete interest in trying to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma for two reasons, according to the latest reports.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Milan’s interest in Zaniolo, which will not be an easy operation to pull off from a cost standpoint but the management still seem willing to try.

The first reason that Milan are so keen on Zaniolo is because they need to buy at least one Italian player in the summer market to boost their homegrown quote (players from Italian academies) for the Serie A and Champions League squad lists, and if it were a starter then even better.

The other major factor that is tempting Milan is that they believe the Italy international still has a big margin to grow in the right environment. After two serious knee injuries the feeling is that Zaniolo could really kick on and develop further at the right club.

To get Zaniolo from Roma, Milan are willing to put forward an offer worth €35m however it is expected that this will not be nearly enough as the Giallorossi are instead asking for €60m currently.

Claudio Vigorelli – the player’s agent – is expected to meet Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto next week to discuss the potential extension of Zaniolo’s contract which is expiring in June 2024.

  1. just get him on free in 2024. This summer buy Asensio for 30-35M€ (he has cl exp etc etc) and sign Cambiaso from geona as back up LB, sell Ballo. Now we have a rw who can play and an italian player for cl spots.

  2. Zaniolo seems too expensive and too risky.

I like Belotti better even though he’s older; less upside with Belotti but much safer and he’s a milanista.
