Tuttosport: Theo Hernandez ‘in love with Milan’ and wants extension

By Oliver Fisher -

As is natural for a player with his quality, Theo Hernandez is attracting the interest of a number of top clubs and renewal talks are planned between now and the end of the season.

Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) reports this morning that the management’s focus after the winter mercato closed last night has already shifted to the summer window and in particular to possible renewals.

There are many players who could sign a new contract with Milan, such as Mike Maignan, and Theo is certainly on that list given that he is among the best in the world in his position.

The left-back renewed his contract in 2021, extending it until 2026 and signing an economic agreement worth €4m net per year, but discussions will soon start over another new contract.

The paper states that Theo ‘is in love with Milan’ and would like to stay ‘for a long time’. However, Milan’s desire to keep him and the player’s wish to extend must be joined to a financial agreement too.

Tuttosport do not mention what he might ask for regarding salary, but given that Rafael Leao’s new deal is €7m net per season including bonuses it is possible that the level has been raised beyond the previous internal salary cap.

  1. They raised it when they noticed they went from having the best midfield, to the worst, but it cost more than keeping it intact. only problem is ot the growth decree is scrapped so…these guys are toast.

Extending Gigi 4 years wpuld have cost less than buying and extending Maignan at the end pf it all.

    1. Donnarumma wanted 12 mil a year.
Milan bought Maignan for 15 plus gave him 3 mil a year contract. How would extending Gigio cost less?
The mistake was not selling Donnarumma, it wasn’t not extending him.

      1. I’m not really a specialist in the financial matter, but there is more to it than just the money announced. In Donnarumma’s case you have to take into account whatever money Raiola wanted which was not included in the 12M. The 12M for Donnaruma was also his NET salary which means that Milan will pay way more than 12M a year for him actually.
Also he wanted 12M a YEAR, over let’s say 3 years it makes for 36M net.
The 15M for Maignan was paid once and 3M a year over 3 years makes it 9M a yer NET+15M which is a total of 24M which is way less than if we reneweed to Donnarumma.
But again I’m not gonna pretend I did the calculations perfectly, feel free to point which mistakes I did. I know for example the gross wage is not the same for a french or an italian.
Now aside from the sum, 12M a year for a player would have created a lot of problems in the dressing room, and all the star players would start ask for a huge rise in their salary.

  2. Theo is the best player on the team. Future Captain and also the hardest player to replace in the event of a sale.

Theo deserves whatever money he wants. Make him the best paid player in the team as an example to the others. Would be a strong signal to Leao 👌

  3. Theo’s baby mama (and kids) is in Milan and has a tattoo shop there. Doubt she’s willing to relocate. And clearly she wears the pants in that relationship, so…….
