Tuttosport: How Theo Hernandez’s performances may affect renewal talks

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the situations that the AC Milan management will have to tackle once the summer transfer window has closed is the renewal of Theo Hernandez, and it is perhaps not as straightforward as it appeared weeks ago.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that Theo was far from his best during the defeat against Parma on Saturday and he has been at the centre of a media storm regarding his work rate in particular.

The left-back was seen jogging back for the second Parma goal, leaving the new signing Strahinja Pavlovic in a difficult position. As reported by Sky, the goalscorer Matteo Cancellieri ran 9km/h faster (30km/h) than Hernandez’s 21km/h.

On the first goal, meanwhile, Man had a speed of 26km/h while Hernandez stopped at 17km/h, once again 9km/h slower. There is no doubt that this made a huge difference and it has been put under the microscope.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic meanwhile has repeatedly stated that Theo’s renewal is under control and while it is something that will be discussed further in due course, the rumours of interest from clubs like Bayern Munich and PSG swirled a few weeks ago.

The disappointing performance from the former Real Madrid man could have direct consequences on the contract talks as per the paper, also because – excluding the first four months of last season – he has failed to be a consistent leader.

  1. He is absolutely right not to enter 100% in the game, he gets the same salary as Florenzi and Origi and much less than Benacer…where is the logic and fairness here ?!?!? When the management learns to respect the players properly then the club will have success.
Forza Leao, Theo, Magnan, Tomori, Pulisic…super players but with a bad employer.

    1. Neither he is right not to enter 100% in the game, nore he gets the same salary as Florenzi and Origi and much less than Bennacer.
Basically you are absolutely wrong about everything.

      1. Let’s say you’re one of the very best employees in your company. A very profitable company that relies on you not only for your primary job but also for side gigs. You never miss a day of work, no sick day ever. Your pairs in the same position at similar companies are paid three times more. Above all your boss explains to everybody how happy you are. But somehow you have to keep smiling and give your best. Professionalism is another excuse to be cheap.

          1. Yeah but at least they can be rewarded with Jerry’s TEDx conferences at Milanello. “Hey guys did I tell you when I bought a company, registered it in Delaware and sold it for five times its initial value?” So inspiring.

        1. Well if he doesn’t play well he won’t get a raise he supposedly wants and his future employee will be right to question his attitude and if he indeed ia worth a raise in salary.

End of the day Theo not giving a 100% (even tho I don’t think this is the case, imao he’s just rusty atm) is only hurting himself..

And btw most lb players get paid just a mill or two more..it’s not like he is playing for 2M or less..he gets a fair 4M atm. Di Marco on the other side gets 4M and 700k bonus. Mendy at real gets 5M. His brother at Psggg gets 10.5M. He’s probably the only one with a really hefty salary. Davies gets 6m at bayern. Most epl lb are also on 5-6M salaries

          1. Yeah, Ferland Mendy who is Théo’s deputy for France earns more. I’m not saying we should cry for Théo, he’s making more money every year than probably all of us combined but the debate is not how much football players are paid, it’s about fair reward. Théo at his best (ie two months ago with France) is a top 3 left back in the world, maybe even the best, and he’s underpaid right now. Again, he’s never injured, he’s playing 90 minutes twice a week and he’s half football player half model for Puma.

Suddenly our top players are playing like sht but it seems that they are the problem. And Fonseca. And before it was Pioli. And before it was Maldini. And before that there were no problems, prior to Redsht. It can’t be a coincidence. Runoff theory. It comes from the top.

      1. You are fed by mom and dad, that’s why you don’t know what professional motivation means, Bartholomeo gave you a good example read and think and don’t insult !!!

  2. I can’t stand this lazy indolent Theo. Football doesn’t start and will not end with Theo. It’s time to move up . Sell this delusional self imaginated “star” and bring someone with hunger and more profesionalism.
Ps. Same situation with Trappao Leao. Viaaaaa !!! Scarpone…

  3. For someone as explosive as Theo, who is easily one of the fastest player in the league; of course it beggars belief to be behind Dennis Man and Cancellieri.

Is he trying to engineer a move? Was he just tired or losing motivation? Was it just one off-day? He has to answer all these questions and I hope he does reply it in the best way possible by having a stellar performance against Lazio AND maintain the level throughout the remainder of the season. He should be one of the leaders of the squad now and his teammates are looking up to him. He is capable of that and I hope Fonseca could sort this issue out.

  4. You totaly wrong. He have contract and need play with his best because that. He not play for free.
So our managment need protect club and sell this Idiot because he not have right to play bad and take salary from our club, and dont care how fans will sad and disapointed. Sell every player if not play with heart 100% for club.

    1. Damn the fans around here… When it’s the bankers it business first and no room for tradition or emotion or romantism but when it’s the players they have to stfu and give everything for cheap. Théo at the Euro was surrounded by French players competing for championships and UCL with huge salaries but he’s just at the wrong place at the wrong moment.

      1. Theo probably gives less fúck about his salary than you do. Seems like you’re projecting very strongly.
Someone underpaid in the company and afraid to ask for a raise?

        1. Ah yeah this is how capitalism works, just ask for a raise and the boss is like sure bro. Thanks for the tip.

But yeah it’s probably not related with everything that’s going wrong at Milan right now, including the management’s frugality and lack of ambition. Probably Théo slept bad because he forgot to buy bread at the grocery store. Zlatan said he’s happy so he must be.

          1. if the boss doesnt give a raise you move to a job where you will get that money. And that is how capitalism works for us regular joes..

Theo needs a minut. Thats all it is. Not the first time he is rusty in avg-sep. everything else is just speculation. Baseless at that.

Worry about your own life and how youll get that raise instead. Bread prices are only gonna go up

          2. Bro this is exactly what I did and I expect Théo to do the same if this management doesn’t wake up. Like Donnarumma (albeit he wanted to play UCL as well), Kessié or Calhanoglu.

Don’t worry about me, if I’m here commenting (“too quickly” it seems) it’s because the rest is fine haha but yeah I’m frustrated that I can’t spend my raise at San Siro because it’s a horror show there. Not only Théo. Maybe he needs time but he’s not the only issue of that team anyway.

  5. Why do you all judge a wonderful player like Théo with just this match this guy has been the face of Milan for almost 3 years I don’t see people bashing leao like this just a bad game that guy played almost every game for Milan no rest went to France and did same that man needs rest right now in football only few can raise hands better than my Théo in the world

  6. It’s important to figure out what Theo’s deal is:

    – Is it early season rust after a long previous season?
    – Is it because he isn’t buying into Fonseca’s system?
-Is it because he’s been here for 5 years and unfortunately needs a new environment for more motivation?
-Is it contract renewal talks or does he not want to be here anymore?

    1. Bro your forgot that only competing for UCL appearance as a world class player in his prime might be an issue as well. For now he only won a Scudetto, which seems so far already, but experienced UCL semifinals and a World Cup final. He’s a football player, not a rapper or a Yankees mascot, he probably doesn’t care about the brand or Jerry’s shareholders and won’t wait for Camarda to get facial hair.

  7. of course it’s big opportunity to lower Theo’s salary request,
then if he leave for free they will say “nobody bigger than our club! not even M3, wth is Theo? we’ll fine w/out him, there’s still bunch of next Kalulu/BalloToure in lige1”
