Tuttosport: Three sales, one signing – Milan’s plan to fix the midfield late in the window

AC Milan do not consider their work in the mercato to be done, and there could be a lot of late movement in order to fix the midfield department according to a report.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) write this morning, the draw in the season debut in Serie A against Torino left a bitter taste in the mouth for Milan, given that so many familiar flaws rose to the surface again.

Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach is a concrete target but before making any other incoming moves, the directors know that they must make some sales, with three candidates standing out above all: Yacine Adli, Tommaso Pobega and Ismael Bennacer.

The first two were not called up for the match against Torino because they are not a part of Paulo Fonseca and Milan’s project. Concrete offers for both are awaited, just as the departure of Bennacer cannot be ruled out despite having started against the Granata on Saturday.

The Algerian is highly regarded especially in Saudi Arabia where Al-Qasdiah and Al-Hial are ready to attack in the coming days, and the three exits could provide both the funds and the spaces in the squad to welcome a fifth summer signing.

Konè is valued at €25m by Borussia Mönchengladbach but an agreement could be found at a slightly lower figure, perhaps with the inclusion of some bonuses or a resale percentage. Roma are also after him, but the Giallorossi must make sales too before attempting a decisive assault.

  1. Surely the problem is the defence, not the midfield. I don’t know why Thiaw is so highly rated, every time I’ve seen him he’s been shockingly bad.

    1. The midfield plays a part too. Someone should tell Loftus what’s the use of your physical attributes if your not willing to help track back and do the dirty work. This is not Burnley or fullham where you can get away with that. Hope fofana will bench this guy

  2. Why don’t we go for Johnny cardoso instead, he’s better, he’s not being targeted by Roma who are very good at getting the players they want, he’s wages are almost half kones currently are, he’s a little younger, there only one bad thing and that is real betis want 5m more than monchengladbach want which is like the end of the world for the Milan department who hate spending any money at all

  3. Bennacer is 10 times the player Loftus cheek is… Why can’t anybody else see this..? Bennacer is never disposessed and never misplaces a pass… His only weakness is a little strength

    1. Bennacer is never dispossessed!

He’s literally been dispossessed at the edge of our box on countless occasions.

Bennacer holds onto the ball way to long.

RLC was our second most successful signing last season after Pulisic.

Why would we sell a midfielder who scored 10 goals for us last season?

      1. It’s not just about scoring goals. While I do agree with you on Bennacer not being up to par, RLC was missing in other aspects of his game.

  4. No players like gattuso or even kessie who help the CB. RLC, reijnders too aggressive. Thiaw and tomori too fragile. CB need some leadership and calmness. Milan need leadership at the back and DM.

  5. Dont sell Bannacer unless his release clause is triggered. He is our best midfielder and has shown he has finally recovered from last season’s major injury. I wouldnt sacrifice him. Pobega, Adli and Thiaw should be sold first. I would also be inclined to keep Kalulu due his versatility and love for the club.

  6. Ive defended RLC long enough, but in truth, his biggest strength are his phyisical attributes… and hes not using any of those… dunno why, but he needs to step it up, or go play lower midtable
