Youssouf Fofana could leave AC Milan this summer to make way for some reinforcements, which in turn could persuade Luka Modric to renew his contract.
Milan have made it clear for several months that they want to keep Modric. The veteran signed a one-year deal with the club last summer but there is an option to extend it for another year. However, unlike other cases, it’s the player himself who has to agree to it and not only the club.

In short, the future has not been decided for Modric and in the meantime, Milan are thinking about how they can best strengthen the team. After all, if a return to the Champions League materialises, then they will need a stronger squad.
Modric to stay, Fofana to leave?
As reported by Tuttosport this morning (via MilanNews), three things are needed for Modric to put pen to paper: 1) Milan need to reinforce the team, 2) Allegri has to stay and 3) they must qualify for the Champions League.
On the first point, Milan are working on the signing of Leon Goretzka, whose contract will expire at the end of the season. An offer has already been sent to the player who, at the moment, is waiting on Champions League confirmation before going any further.
Numerically speaking, Milan would need to make room for the German and as the newspaper continues, Fofana is the most likely candidate. The relationship with Allegri has never blossomed and he has interest from Lyon and Marseille, with the Rossoneri valuing him at €30m.

priority should be the weak links which we already have plenty…
Estupinan, RLC, Odogu and Fulkrug upgrades need to take priority. Sorloth, Goretzka and Gila seem currently the main focus for now. if all 3 comes, we will be stronger, so I don’t mind; on top they would use minimal resources ~40M.
further weakening attack with Leao’s forceful departure and Fofana’s sale for already small midfield; idk…
Ricci taking over the midfield spot from Fofana and Goretzka need to be key. the french-german duo should slowly shift to bench. same with Modric’s final season, Jashari needs to develop.
what we are missing still there is vice-Rabiot and upgrade on Estupinan.
I can only dream of a Theo come back, to be honest he can be a beast under allegri in a 532 formation. barte is developing good but he lacks attacking still
This article makes no sense. Modric staying or leaving has nothing to do with Fofana who is one our best midfielders this season. Without him or Rabiot our midfield becomes useless.
If any midfielder should go then it should be Ricci who is sold. We all know RLC needs to be sold but I would include Ricci as well.
Ricci has offered nothing to the midfield and keeping would be a huge mistake especially at the expense of Fofana leaving.
Precisely, spot on.
Fofana is a case study in why Ricci deserves another season to prove himself.
!00% correct. Fofan and Modric play together well. Selling Fofana and keeping Ricci and Jashari for that matter makes no sense at all.
The problem is that it’s hard to tell why players are being transferred and moved around. Is it a sporting need or a capital gains need?
Fofana is a good rotation piece among better midfielders and could would be useful.
Speaking of which, i see that there has been a lot of thinking that the club’s management should offer Ardon Jashari and Ricci to the market! I somehow disagree with that. I think these guys still have a lot to offer, they just need time and more space. Now I’ll say what would probably bother most people. Maybe it would be best if Modrić retired and left his role to these two!?
no it’s not Fofana nor Ricci/ Jashari.
it must be RLC, Musah, Bondo, Beni to go.
it’ll be 6 players for 3 pos, a better new player (Goretzka/ Silva), Modric, Rabiot, Fofana, Ricci & Jash
Yes definitely rlc, mush, bondo and just release beni and take the loss.
Ricci never got a chance this season. Fofana is definitely improving. Could be pretty lethal next season as his finishing is improving.
And to Tom’s comment about Theo. Hell no. He is rotten to the core. Him and leao had a stinking attitude on and off the pitch with pioli, Fonseca and conceceao(sorry terrible spelling)
Theo stopped defending. He had his chance and blew it.
