Tuttosport: Why Milan have frozen Samardzic talks after encouraging early signs

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have decided to put negotiations with Udinese over Lazar Samardzic on pause for the time being as the situation remains deadlocked, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) states that there have been no developments between the two clubs in the last few days despite the fact that things started well early on in the discussions.

Milan reached a basic agreement with the father-agent of the midfielder on the salary that he would receive and on the commissions for his entourage and family, and then they turned to Udinese to try strike a deal over the transfer fee and package.

The issue is that Udinese want €20m (€25m with bonuses) in cash and without counterparts in order to sell the 22-year-old. Milan meanwhile hoped to close with a smaller cash outlay and perhaps by including at least one player in the operation, but have hit a wall.

In fact, Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani were willing to send Yacine Adli or Tommaso Pobega to Udinese in order to try and agree some kind of exchange deal but they did not get the desired feedback. We must now wait and see if the negotiations will restart towards the end of the month.

  1. Can’t buy players without money.
It’s funny, juve throwing cash left and right ( idk where they got it) and we can’t, or won’t, even pay 20M for someone, anyone

    1. Also, it might not just be the money but space in the squad. We have Bennacer, Reijnders, RLC, Musah, potentially Fofana, Adli and Pobega for those two or three spots (depends if Pulisic plays in front as a no10). Why spend 20m on another when we don’t even have squad space to register the ones we have?

    2. And look how they are stuck with Chiesa, De Sciglio, Rugani and Sczecnzy. I am having a lot of popcorn watching them trying to offload them

  2. We dont need him. We should also wait 6 months and get fofana for free. I like Adli, he has the right attitude and characteristics to do well. Lets not forget he played out of position for Pioli. With RLC deployed deeper next to Bennacer we have good double pivot. For rotation we have Musah, Aldi allowing Pulisic and Reijnders to play further up. We can then call up our youth for copa italia or in case injuries like zeroli.

Ricci from Torino is good buy if we can send back Pobega their way. If Aston Villa need to sell Tielemans is another profile worth looking at.

    1. I don’t think that you understand that we really, really need a good defensive midfielder. None of the players you mentioned are good DMs. Since we lost Kessié we have struggled in defense because we don’t have a good DM to shield the defenders.

I am very discouraged regarding the Fofana situation. I think that Monaco’s owner is so offended and upset at Milan, that for revenge he will remain ambiguous until the end of the window and then will NOT sell Fofana to us, in order to further damage us by missing out on suitable alternatives. He is a multi-billionaire and couldn’t care less if they lose the player for free next year.

I think we should move on to alternative targets immediately and forget Fofana for now; we can get him for free next year, but this year we need another DM as soon as possible.

      1. But Kessie is not a true DM himself. He is a CM that are really strong. Tonali Kessie Double pivot works because both cover defensive duties, but not Pure DM.

        1. Although it was more of an exception rather than a rule, but Kessie did play few games as a 6 in a 4-3-3 with his NT and even one game as a central defender. Most of the times though he played in a double pivot (4-2-3-1).
The few times Fofana played in a 4-3-3, he played in front of Kanté or Tchouaméni.

        2. It doesn’t matter if Kessié was a true DM or not. What matters is that he was EXCELLENT as a defender. He was such a strong player, he could both play defense, midfield, and offense. Our phenomenal defense during the scudetto season was largely due to Kessié’s presence. He is a rare talent who can do it all. In his absence, we need a true DM because another Kessié who can do it all and never tires, is very hard to find. Letting go Kessié was perhaps our biggest mistake of recent times – and not replacing him was the second biggest mistake, one that cost us our competitiveness. We need to fix this glaring hole.

    2. By the way, I do agree with you that we don’t need Samardzic; at least, not as a priority. What I’m saying is that your post made it look like we are set for the midfield. Sure, we don’t need Samardzic (I’d promote Liberali to the first team instead of getting Samardzic) but we are not all set for the midfield because we do need Fofana or another good DM. People will say, but Fofana doesn’t really play as a DM for Monaco. Maybe not but he CAN play as a good DM.

      1. I agree with you all, Kessie was a great player for us, so was calhanglou. Both along with Romagnoli, Donnarumma all left on a free transfer. The main reason except for romagnoli was due to wages. I would love for us to bring back Kessie but he earns 10-12m in saudi. Even if he takes 50% paycut we still cant afford him. Fofana on a free transfer like what has happened to us make sense. We have enough depth this season to make things work and not buy for the sake of buying.

In the interim Arambat would be good. He is a pure CDM, he had bad stint in EPL but he has proven himself in Serie A with Fiorentina and had a great world cup with Morrocco.

  3. You pay money you get the players unfortunately Ac milan don’t do that anymore to the point we are unable to get average talent from relegation teams.

They all know just how POOR OUR SQUAD IS AS THEY DO OUR SO CALLED MANAGEMENT REDBIRD OR SHOULD THAT BE ELLIOT.

  4. We don’t need Samardzic but it’s a good depth attacking piece to have.

Can we sell off the deadwood is the question?
