Santiago Gimenez made his return after over four months out, and he has two missions between now and the end of the season.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) report, Gimenez has two objectives in this final two months of the season: 1) play well enough to earn a stay at his beloved Milan and 2) earning a call-up to the Mexico squad for the World Cup.
April and May will be crucial to convincing both his coaches for club and country, Massimiliano Allegri and Javier Aguirre. The path is not easy: at Milan, he’s starting lower in the pecking order after a long layoff, while Raul Jimenez is the starting player for the national team .
Time to give everything
Gimenez was sidelined for 144 days due to an ankle problem, culminating in surgery in Amsterdam after the match against Atalanta on October 28th. Despite the long lay-off, Gimenez is convinced he made the right choice.
“During the match against Atalanta, I took double the dose of medication, which is when I decided to stop, and after tests and X-rays, the decision was to have surgery,” he told a Mexican channel earlier this week.
“The World Cup is in the summer, and I evaluated all the possible scenarios. The decision I made was to have surgery, along with my family, and it was the best decision.”
Corriere dello Sport reports how the absence has also helped him mentally: after a strong start upon his arrival in Milan, his performances gradually declined, resulting in zero league goals this season.
Now, however, Santi is looking ahead with confidence. His recent return against Torino – greeted by applause at San Siro – marks a new beginning. The goal is clear: to score again with Milan and earn himself another season, and a key role at the home World Cup.

We’re to a point of actually being excited about Santi’s return – that’s how bad our forwards’ situation has gotten… Sad.
I don’t know who’s excited, to me he is a worse version of Fullkrug
Terrible ‘striker. Anyone but him please!?!?
