MN: Two more incidents go against Milan during derby stalemate with Inter

AC Milan have once again been left questioning the decisions of the officials in the aftermath of the 0-0 derby draw against Inter, which continues a familiar narrative.

In the post-match dissection of what was a poor spectacle, MilanNews write how two incidents in particular could have gone the other way and subsequently influences the outcome of the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final.

The first and most contentious incident is Milan Skriniar’s ‘rugby tackle’ against Olivier Giroud just minutes into the second half. The referee Maurizio Mariani had a full view of what happened, but he saw no reason to intervene despite the protests and despite the Inter defender not looking at the ball, and VAR did not advise him to check.

The second episode occurred in the Milan area this and it was Lautaro Martinez’s stamp on Mike Maignan. The Argentine’s foot is in such a position that he knows he is about to put his full weight into the stamp and with the ball not really close and given the recklessness, a red seemed more appropriate than a yellow.
