It has been over two weeks since a management clear-out rocked the AC Milan world, and the dust is still settling.
On May 25 – in the wake of Milan’s failure to qualify for the Champions League – Gerry Cardinale decided to overhaul the management of the club and sack a number of key figures in the hierarchy.

The statement read: “It is now time for change and a profound reorganisation of the club’s sporting department. With immediate effect, the tenures at AC Milan of CEO Giorgio Furlani, Sporting Director Igli Tare, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada have come to an end.”

From that moment 16 days ago, Cardinale’s revolution effectively began, having assured journalists in a media briefin that he would reorganise Milan within a week, or ten days at most. Over two weeks have passed and there have been no decisive moves which point towards the new direction.
Over the past two weeks, the RedBird boss – supported by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Calvelli – has had a series of meetings, calls, and telephone conversations with various figures, but for now, the Milan organisational chart still has plenty of empty slots.
Milan have made it clear that this situation isn’t too worrying because it’s better to spend one more day than make a bad choice. So, the club are in no rush, at least internally. Yet, they ought to be: the start of preseason at Milanello is scheduled for a month, and everything is still missing.
While those inside Casa Milan are calm, the same can’t be said for the fans, who are rightly looking to the future with great concern. Other teams are already working on the transfer market and strengthening their squads, but Milan are on hold until Cardinale chooses his new director and coach.
Once that’s done, they’ll have to plan the summer transfer window and reinforce a squad that simply cannot fail to reach the Champions League again next year. Are Milan sure there’s nothing to worry about?
