TyC Sports: Milan have ‘asked for a meeting’ with Gallardo – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have asked for a meeting with Marcelo Gallardo over the possibility of him becoming their next head coach, according to a report from Argentina.

A report from Sky last night claimed that Milan are thinking about Gallardo, who made history with River Plate but is now in the Saudi Pro League with Al Ittihad, a club he is about to leave.

According to the latest from Gaston Edul of TyC Sports, Milan have ‘asked for a meeting’ with Gallardo implying that they do indeed have an interest in probing the track.

The 48-year-old has not yet resolved his departure from Al Ittihad. Today there will be a meeting to see if he can leave now or if he has to coach the next three games before departing.

The journalist adds that Gallardo is not the only candidate that Milan are looking at and there are  ‘several more’ on the list. Gallardo does not appear to be the main candidate at present even, but it remains true that Milan have requested a meeting with him.

It will not be easy though, because the Argentina has to formalise his exit from the Saudi club and at the moment there is no guarantee on time frame.

  1. This is tabloid speculation. This guy has never coached in Europe. I profoundly doubt that Milan is considering him. Other news organizations say he is returning to Argentina to run for President of River Plate. Apparently he doesn’t even want to continue to coach. I call BS.

  2. If this who they consider as a candidate, then we are regressing pioli for all his shortcomings is ten times better than gallardo. Since he started coaching Alittihad his team has been battered by the top clubs and the relegation battlers alike and his team plays with no clear organization or tactics.
I hope this is pure media speculation

  3. I don’t see the euros thing as an issue, South American football comes with the same rigours and demands as Europe. He’s a winner first and foremost. 14 trophies in 8 seasons, including two Copa Libertadores is not to be sniffed at. He has the big club mentality, River are huge as is their rivalry with Boca who he beat in one final.

I’m a big fan of this move, there are better options but I don’t think we can or will get them. I’d sooner Gallardo than Motta or De Zerbi

    1. Massive fan of Gallardo. If he’s keen to come it’s worth the risk of a potentially mixed season. He’s a coach who could develop into the next Klopp or Ancelotti

      1. Unless we can get Zidane or Klopp I don’t see a better option. Tuchel seems Man U bound, I like the idea of a Nagelsman or Flick but they don’t seem on our radar. Motta and De Zerbi come with an attraction of potential but they haven’t won 14 trophies in 8 seasons….

Gallardo may also open the door to some South American talent that we haven’t had access to since Leonardo left

    2. South American football is surely not bad but let’s not overrate it either, Europe is still a step ups and the big 4 leagues are clearly above everything else.

    1. That’s my only issue with Conceicao, Mendes will be looking for a new (richer) toy for him to play with in a couple of years.
