UEFA appear to have an eye on developments related to AC Milan’s new stadium because they consider the venue as a potential location for the 2032 European Championship final.
In recent weeks, the Milan leadership have revealed their plans for a new stadium in the San Donato region of the city which will have somewhere around 70,000 seats and will be a state of the art facility.
As reported by La Repubblica (via Calcio e Finanza), UEFA will have to ratify in 2026 the FIGC’s decision on the five stadiums in which to host the 2032 edition of the European Championship, which Italy and Turkey should host together (next month in Nyon the official choice will be made).
Milan will certainly be among the five Italian venues for the matches, with a good chance of hosting a semi-final. The doubt is obviously about the stadium in which it will be played, given the troubles of San Siro with its age.
San Siro however will be the scene of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in 2026 and of the Champions League final in 2026 or 2027. However, in 2032 things might have changed, especially if Milan and/or Inter have built a new home.
For all these reasons, UEFA could endorse the choice of Milan’s new stadium for EURO 2032, provided that the company provides the FIGC with the guarantee of being able to build the facility by 2026, with the related bureaucratic and building permits, and above all that the project has the necessary financial coverage.
Even Uefa is concerned about San Siro’s age.
But not Italian politicians and bureaucrats. An Italian Inter fan, of mine thinks that San Siro is a World Class stadium. And he would rather his team play there than build a new stadium.🗿
People living in Milan don’t want their taxes to help build a stadium for football clubs worth billions of euros when hospitals, schools or public infrastructures already need financial support.
Why? Italy is a rich developed country and Milano, is fashion capital of the world, with a high standard of living. Are hospitals, schools and basic infrastructure, in Milano in dilapidated state?
Inter and Milan aren’t any state owned entity, for stadium cost both clubs will have to pay their money. So where does, the question of tax money arise? Even if it’s about tax, don’t Milanese residents want to see their team rise again?
No one called for government money lmao. All the clubs want are clearance to spend their own money to help make the fans experience better and sign top players
Lol, no one wanted government money. I guess these are the lies that fooled Italians.
Let inter rot along with that stadium.
IM and monza can play on san siro . Rent forever from city council . Thats win win solution with milan government .
italy and turkey hosting a european championship together sounds rather ridiculous in my book. It would make much more sense in the spirit of peace if turkey and cyprus tried to mend its anomosity and co-hosted together but turkey/italy just seems weird to me. Not gonna happen, but stiill we are allowed to dream.
I think Monza will stay at Monza. They don’t need such a big stadium anyway.
