UEFA to postpone European Championships until 2021 – what that means for Serie A

By Oliver Fisher -

UEFA have made the decision to postpone the 2020 European Championships until 2021 in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

European football’s governing body held a conference call with the ECA and the European leagues shortly after noon and at 1:00pm another started with the 55 associated associations, as per MilanLive.

Although no official announcement has come directly from UEFA yet, the decision to postpone the Euros until 2021 has already been leaked by the Norwegian Football Federation, who published the news on Twitter.

What does this mean for Serie A and for Milan? Well, it shows a willingness on UEFA’s part for all of the European leagues to get their current seasons finished, with some outlets reporting that they must be finished by June.

Whether this will be possible, given the severity of the pandemic, remains to be seen, however it seems unlikely that the various championships can continue in May when experts are suggesting that the virus will peak around that time.
