Valencia 0-0 AC Milan (5-3): Rossoneri beaten on penalties despite encouraging display

By Isak Möller -

Milan continued their pre-season this evening away at Valencia, following the 1-1 draw against Nice on Saturday. Although it ended up being a loss on paper, the performance was encouraging from the Rossoneri.

In the first half, Milan had a plethora of chances and looked very sharp on many occasions. However, the final touch was missing and thus they remained scoreless as the referee blew for half-time.

Rafael Leao did, however, have a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside, which was a shame. It was a great ball from Fikayo Tomori that set the Portuguese youngster free and he made no mistakes with the finish.

The second half was a lot different as neither side created any dangerous chances and the tempo was also much lower. It might have had to do with all the subs, as Stefano Pioli made a total of 10, though they didn’t look bad.

The game, therefore, went to penalties and Milan converted all of theirs except one, courtesy of Rade Krunic. Valencia, meanwhile, scored all of theirs and thus came away with the victory. Overall, though, encouraging from Milan.

  1. Yikes! What encouraging display? Based on these two recent friendlies, we need BOTH Ziyech AND Isco. Creativity is in an all time low after Hakan’s departure.

Also, 4-4-2 doesn’t work. We couldn’t even keep the ball for 30 seconds from the 70th minute onwards (when we went 4-4-2).

And Tatarusanu was ridiculous in the penalties. I could’ve done better. Plizzari should be our number 2. We won’t get anything out of playing Tata anymore.

  2. I don’t understand what is Pioli thinking. In preseason, he should give opportunity to youngster to see if we have potential youngster to be promote to Senior team. Also leave Hauge out of squad is unacceptable behivour, although you plan to sell him, doesn’t mean you need to excile him completely.

Another weird decision is to leave Castillejo played full time while only giving Maldini 46 min. Giving Tatarusanu chance instead of Plizzari. Bring Robotti and Di Gesu just to be a bench warmer.
