CM: Vasquez over Ochoa and failed Zaniolo and Osorio pursuits – details of Milan’s January window

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan ended the January transfer window having signed only Devis Vasquez as a third-choice goalkeeper, before the failed pursuits of several attacking stars.

As has been outlined by Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri had an unusual and largely unsuccessful transfer window in January 2023.

Vasquez from Guarani is the only player who joined but that has no bearing on the first team this season. Many feel that Guillermo Ochoa should have been signed instead in order to replace Ciprian Tatarusanu whilst Mike Maignan is injured. He is now at Salernitana.

The two players in attack that Milan appeared the most serious about signing were Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma and Dario Osorio who is a Chilean youngster.

For both of those players, Milan were not able to stump up enough cash to make the deals work, meaning Stefano Pioli must work with what he has in place, a team that is badly out of form.

  1. It is okay, we just have no money for big signings and Ochoa can’t come since we have like ‘quota’ for older ones

As long the squad has the ‘right’ mentality, we will bounce back since we haven’t lack of quality (compared to fellow serie A not named Napoli, Inter, Juve), we just have a mental issue right now

  2. Well at least juventus is out of CL for now, we have 1 team less to fight for CL spot. I hope we reach at least 3rd place if not 2nd, i think nobody will reach napoli only if they get a crisis like we do but dont think so. I mean they play nice, i dont like napoli but the way they played in seria a and CL they deserve it. Hope we can dig deeper in our pockets next time when we search for players and dont have to negociate the whole summer for 1 expensive transfer because because we lack the funds. We have a lot of things to worry about before we go shoping, contract with leao, search for alternatives now of he doesnt want to sign and dont wait till summer and make a proper transfer plan now and not on the last moment.

    1. Nobody is asking us to lol. We were asking to spend some $ now to secure CL. We WILL HAVE a budget to spend in 2023. Perhaps that is another 50M or less. Fine. So instead of spending that money in summer of 2023 – instead spend it in winter of 2023. So we are NOT increasing the 2023 budget rather we were asking to use it EARLIER (winter of 2023 vs summer 0f 2023) – so that we can make sure CL is secured for next season. Get it?? The fact that Redbird did not and took such a hard line in the sand is unreasonable and doesn’t indicate to the fans that they have the intention to win – and are willing to risk CL. Something that makes no sense.

      1. Its crazy, we’ll lose 50 to 100m if we miss out on the top 4.
Honestly this all stinks of Elliott finally stripping the club of its assets.

Spending on young players is an “investment” and if you get more right than wrong you increase the value of the club. As well as improving performance which yields increased revenue.
These are very worrying times indeed!
