Verona boss Baroni gives his version of events after Theo Hernandez incident

Hellas Verona head coach Marco Baroni has given his version of events after the misunderstanding involving Theo Hernandez after his goal.

Theo Hernandez will miss the game against Fiorentina after the international break because of a booking that was certainly rather perplexing in truth.

The French full-back got the opening goal of the game not long before the break when he took advantage of a couple of favourable ricochets to get in behind and finish past Montipo from a narrow angle.

As DAZN reported after the game, the Verona team manager misunderstood Theo’s celebration, deeming it to be provocative. He alerted their head coach Baroni, who ran towards the fourth official Massimi to report the incident and the yellow was given.

Theo spotted that the Verona bench was upset and mimed ‘let’s talk later’ towards them but the referee clearly had not understood the situation and gave a yellow to him.

Baroni spoke during his post-match press conference and he was asked by a reporter what happened during the incident with Theo Hernandez.

“I’m not here to assign blame, they taught me that you can apologise. I thought I saw a gesture towards the Curva, then I clarified with Theo,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I don’t want to comment on the rest. This is my point of view. I thought I saw this, Theo told me about it and I said ‘sorry then’.”

  1. Should perhaps appeal that yellow card if the intent wasn’t there. An unfair suspension and perhaps more needs to be investigated.

  2. You trying to say that the referees gives cards based on what someone from the opponent team reported to the ref ?? How can he give card for something that him or his asisstants dindnt hear themself ???
