Hellas Verona forward Gianluca Caprari believes that AC Milan deserve to win the Scudetto over Inter but also admitted that he and his team-mates will look to do the Nerazzurri a favour.
Caprari is having an impressive season with 12 goals and 7 assists racked up in the league and he hopes for a call-up from Roberto Mancini for the national team soon, but in the meantime he spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about his season and Sunday’s game.
“Now I have made the leap in quality that I was missing. I hope to realise the dream I’ve always had: the national team. I hope so much, I’ve only had a taste of it, I feel ready,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).
On two different occasions (1973 and 1990) a loss against Hellas Verona ultimately costed Milan the title (which was won by Juventus and Napoli respectively), and the hope is that the taboo can be put to bed.
“We haven’t talked about it but I read something. It makes no difference: like in Cagliari, we go out on the pitch to win all the games, we don’t care about survival or the title. We have our goal and it is right to always play to win,” Caprari added.
“It will be a spectacular match, they have great quality but Verona has shown that if it is 100% it is annoying for everyone and we can also achieve results with them, because in addition to rhythm and aggressiveness, we also have quality.”
Finally, the 28-year-old forward spoke about who deserves to go on and win the league title this season and he revealed his belief that the Rossoneri deserve it even though they are not as strong.
“Do Milan deserve the Scudetto? For how they played this season, yes, they deserve it, even though I think the strongest team is Inter. They missed the match in Bologna and now it’s tough. My Instagram is clogged with Nerazzurri fans right now… I repeat, we will try to win because we have the record of points and goals to chase.”
