‘Vigilantly waiting for the right opportunity’ – Di Marzio gives update on Milan’s mercato

AC Milan have made four summer signings so far, and Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested that there could yet be further movement between now and the end of the window.

Milan have so far welcomed a new starting striker in Alvaro Morata, a reinforcement for the defence in Strahinja Pavlovic, some competition at right-back through Emerson Royal and also a new starting midfielder in Youssouf Fofana.

During the presentation for Fofana at Casa Milan yesterday afternoon – which was delayed by about two hours – Zlatan Ibrahimovic also answered some questions from the journalists and admitted that more could happen before the mercato shuts.

The Swede even confirmed that there is interest in signing Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach, but with the underlying suggestion that there must also be some exits, something that Giorgio Furlani confirmed before last night’s game.

Di Marzio spoke after the 2-2 draw between Milan and Torino and he gave an update on where the mercato stands, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“It’s normal not to say that the mercato is over with 13 days to go, but the needs have been met. Milan were very good even if the negotiations were slow but they were slow because Milan wanted to take the players they had set out to do on their own terms, they didn’t want to overpay for them and in any case today they added Emerson Royal, Pavlovic and Fofana,” he said.

“Then if there are opportunities and in the meantime someone who is on the market today like Kalulu who has not been called up and who is still waiting to say yes to Juventus, Adli and Pobega are both out, Bennacer has played as a starter but he too has some sirens, so we need to understand if he wants to go or not.

“With certain exits, Milan could make a further operation and be they are vigilantly waiting for the right opportunity on the market.”
