Ibrahimovic retired at the end of last season, thanking the Milan fans at San Siro, and he has been linked with a return ever since. After months of talks, it seems the 42-year-old is getting closer to exactly that, destined to work closely with Cardinale.
According to Antonio Vitiello for MilanNews, the role that has filtered from yesterday’s meeting is adviser or consultant to the owner (RedBird). The meeting lasted for two hours and it’s clear that Ibrahimovic and Cardinale have great respect for each other.
Ibrahimovic wants guarantees regarding his role and that is what the parties are working on currently. He has no intention of simply being a brand ambassador, he wants to make a difference not just for the Milan players but also for the management.
The dialogue between Ibrahimovic and Cardinale, as the report concludes, has been ongoing for three months and now we are approaching the end. There are still a few things to figure out, but it seems the Swede will be appointed by RedBird and not Milan, even though the Rossoneri will be his main focus.
