Vitiello: Milan agree terms with Brazilian full-back and hope for deal under €20m

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have agreed personal terms with Spurs defender Emerson Royal and are now seeking an agreement with Spurs over a transfer fee, a report claims.

Having been linked with a move for Royal over the past few summer transfer windows dating back to the time Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were the directors, it feels like the doors are finally open this time for things to happen.

The full-back has fallen by the wayside at Spurs a bit since the departure of Antonio Conte who deployed him regularly in his 3-5-2, and the player seems to be pushing for a move away as he enters his prime years.

According to Anto Vitiello of MilanNews, Milan have ‘moved forward’ in their pursuit of a new right-back to give to head coach Paulo Fonseca, who wants two more attack-minded players on the flanks of his defence.

The club already have an agreement in principle with the Brazilian and have done for a few weeks, the journalist claims, but they lack an agreement with Tottenham and will still need time to negotiate there.

In fact, Milan hope to sign the former Barcelona and Real Betis man on advantageous terms, i.e. for less than €20m in transfer fee, but will only accelerate after getting a striker in.

Emerson confirmed in a recent interview that Milan are in talks with Spurs over his potential transfer but admitted that nothing is done yet, hinting that he would be interested in the move.

    1. 100%, I think we should force Spurs to have a mandatory buy back option, sounds ridiculous but not as ridiculous as the management trying to sign him.

Just don’t know why, how can you pay 20m for him and cry about 15m commission for a world class or potentially world class player.

How we are not moving heaven and earth to get Bounogernou and Calfiori..that tells me and hopefully everyone about how clueless the management are being

      1. World class player? Are you talking about Zirkzee? He is so much world class he had only one good season in his life (and he is already 23, just 2 years younger than Emerson). And in his one good season he was not even top15 (!) striker in Serie A.

He is also so world class he wasn’t even called up for the poor Dutch team Euro squad (he got there eventually only because other player was injuried).

He is so hyped up and valued only because he is Dutch and because other strikers are expensive as well. In the past days, he wouldn’t even be considered to be a rotation player, so don’t get too hyped up with him, for all we know he can be Piatek 2.0.

  1. Like his name, he’s royal to buy equipment and fitness staff, but the fee to aign him should be 10M€ or less considering resale value and offloading factor.

  2. Don’t be negativ. Yes I know he is not the best on the market, but maybe it will be like with Tomori. He was not the best in PL and in Italy he is solid. And there is potential that Calabria will be on the bench because of his speed and technique

    1. I don’t think there is any player that Milan will bid for, that is not condemnable in the eyes of you fans.
He is a very good player, take it or leave it.

  3. Moncada and co must be blind or high, have watched this guy many times for Spurs and he is a liability, can’t defend and like a headless chicken attacking, banter era is returning to Milan if this is our first signing of the mercato !!

  4. I totaly disagree

I would pay 20M or 40M for a player if he’s worthy, but wouldn’t pay 15M or even 5M for commission to some agent just because he has an agrement with that player to represent him.

  5. They sell Emerson to us then Tottenham want to buy Kayode from Fiorentina.
    This Management is embarrassing.
They want to buy Emerson a flop with high salary instead of Kayode a Italian with Serie A Experience and a lot of Potential that cost the same as Emerson.

    1. Fiorentina want Pobega and are ready to sell Kayode for 20 millions. It’s a no brainer here. Except for these highflying useless m0r0ns called management.

  6. I watched him play at Tottenham, and I was never impressed. When I heard the name mentioned with Milan, I was really surprised. I don’t know what they see in him. Hope they get someone else.

  7. You bunch of useless hee-haws, Fiorentina wants Pobega and we want new RB plus we need to respect homegrown quotes. Get Kayode in exchange you m0r0ns!

  8. Plain & Simple: average players in the EPL tend to do well in our league. Look at puli and RLC.

It would make sense to reserve judgment until after we see him play in Italy. Fonseca wants him for his offensive capabilities, likely. Hernandez wasn’t much of a defender either when we got him, and look at him now.

Offensively speaking, nobody we have as a rightback contributes anything worth a damn to our attack.

    1. Because florenzi and his 1 goal and 7 assist don’t exist..
Royal is a cráp player. He always was and always will be a cráp player. Just the fact nobody is interested in him speaks volumes at the cráp lvl he is at. Puli and ruben were not cráp players. They got pushed out because of their injuries..

And no epl average players don’t do well in Italy. If that was true the league would be half full of them by now

      1. And let’s not forget that Florenzi’s assists came with very limited minutes. And half of the matches Flo played on the wrong side of the pitch covering for Theo!

If this transfer happens, Milan needs to change their scouts. Moncada out. Unacceptable.
