Vitiello: Milan turn to youngsters Vos and Zeroli amid long Bennacer absence

By Isak Möller -

Ismael Bennacer is expected to be on the sidelines for roughly three months and as the transfer window has closed, AC Milan will rely on internal solutions. According to a report, these are Silvano Vos and Kevin Zeroli.

The signing of Vos, above all for Milan Futuro, was announced on deadline day as Milan agreed on a deal that could be worth up to €5m with Ajax. The Dutchman impressed in his debut with the Futuro, as highlighted by a compilation of his performance.

According to Antonio Vitiello, Milan consider Vos and Zeroli as the replacements for Bennacer, with especially the former expected to feature for the first team. On the other hand, he hasn’t been included on the Champions League squad list, though Zeroli has (through List B).

Milan could also scan the free agents market, as the journalist concludes, but a potential signing would only be able to play in Serie A and not in the Champions League. It thus might not be worth the hassle unless it’s someone like Adrien Rabiot, who was offered a contract by the Rossoneri.

As for the upcoming games, including the derby, the midfield tandem should consist of Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders. Yunus Musah will also be competing for one of those spots.

  1. Please bench Loftus Cheek and sell him in January. I hope Fonseca time is short at Milan. I just don’t understand why Pioli and now Fonseca think RLC is an AM.

I would include Zeroli, Vos and Liberali in the first team. Reinjders at AM and Fofana and Vos in the double pivot. Even though we really should be playing 433 with Fofana, Reinjders and Vos.

  2. Well this is a mess.
We are hoping a guy (Vos) who Ajax were not using and sold for 5m to save our midfield. Because he played well in Serie C!!
    All time low

    1. Vos or zeroli just for depth . Even if bennacer fit , he will just for bench too. There is nothing more left in bennacer , time to move on from him

  3. This still makes no sense. Neither Voss nor zeroli are double pivot, ball winning mids…. They are both creators and look to get forward and make things happen. Unless we are changing formation

    1. I think if we want a ball winning mid, we will have to try some of the defenders there. Since at least they can tackle. Not many options since the management didn’t brought a proper DM. I say try Teraciano as a DM (He actually plays DM) or maybe even Tomori and let Gabia pair with Pavlovic. I would still try to go with the mid that we have for couple more games tho, before going with something more radicale.

    2. Vos seemed to be a good tackler in his highlights and he did play as a 6 in a 4-3-3.
Now is he any good in games vs serie A teams is another issue all together.

  4. The best thing that Bennacer is injured and I guess he is not but he is just rebeling for not letting him transfer. I hope that Loftus will get injured so Liberali, Zeroli and Vos will have theyr chances to shine.

  5. Jfc. People don’t know what position Vos is? He’s a defensive midfielder. Look it up. As far as Bennacer who is surprised? He’s like glass. And we won’t be able to get anything for him in the future. We missed that boat.

  6. Between Vos, Zeroli and Liberali, likely Vos is more ready to play with the first team given that he played several times with his first team in the Dutch league. Zeroli, Liberali and Camarda have great potential but are still too young and not fully developed, muscle-wise.

Vos is also more adapt to DM duties than Zeroli and Liberali who are more AM material.

However, let’s remember that Vos’ team was willing to get rid of him for 2.5M + 2.5M bonuses, and let’s also remember that Serie A is a totally different animal than the Eredivisie or Serie C, so the hopes that Vos will magically solve our midfield problem are wildly unrealistic.

Many here keep hoping for our youngsters to be given time with the first team. They don’t seem to realize how playing against senior Serie A players is very different from playing for the Primavera or even for Milan Futuro.

See Camarda. In his young career he has scored a lot in youth leagues. However playing against center backs who have twice his muscle mass, he is likely to be bumped to the ground.

These excellent and very promising youth players need time to develop in peace, lest we’ll ruin their potential.

The fascination of some fans here with youth players is concerning. There is a reason why first teams in top leagues hire senior players who are paid to play for first teams. There is a reason why youth players play for youth teams or for developmental lower league teams like Milan Futuro.

People see the rare exceptions like Yamal and Endrick who are once-in-a-generation players and assume that most youth players are ready like they are. Most are not.

Our youngsters are excellent but shouldn’t be getting more than 10-15-minute cameos in games already decided in Serie A, and be allowed to develop in Serie C with Futuro.
