Vitiello: Negotiations ongoing over renewal of two stars with Milan ‘very confident’

One of the issues that has faded into the background given the focus on signings and sales is renewals, with Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez the players in the spotlight.

As Anto Vitiello writes in his latest column for MilanNews, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was asked for an update on the talks with Maignan and Theo Hernandez during the press conference to present Youssouf Fofana as a new signing.

The Senior Advisor ‘said he was very confident, since the dialogue is going ahead and above all because the club has kept its promise not to sell any big names (the reference is to Leao and the two Frenchmen)’.

Indeed, Vitiello confirms that the ‘negotiations are going ahead’ with the French duo, and the club said they are ‘optimistic about finding an agreement’ with the goalkeeper and the left-back to extend their deals beyond June 2026.

The management ‘will get to the heart of the matter after the mercato’, but Ibrahimovic has expressed a feeling of confidence and now the expectation from the fans is that this will be turned into two signatures in the coming weeks and/or months.

Maignan was outstanding during the opening day draw against Torino, while Theo came off the bench in second half to inject life into the comeback mission, after both played a key role in France’s European Championship run. In short, both remain crucial players and among the best in their positions.
