Study of wage bill shows how impressive Milan’s 2021-22 Scudetto win was

AC Milan’s Scudetto win looks all the more impressive when reviewing the club’s accounts an in particular their wage bill, a report has revealed.

The Swiss Ramble have taken a look at the Milan accounts for the last year, and dedicated a section to how Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have done work on the overall salaries paid. The wage bill slightly increased by 1% to €170m, but it is still not as high as the pre-pandemic €185m in 2019.

In fact, Milan’s wage bill has only increased by €12m (8%) since 2016 and for comparison Inter’s is up €124m since then and Juventus are up €116m.

Milan’s €170m wage bill is the third highest in Italy, but Juve are way ahead of that with €337m and Inter also spend substantially more at €248m. Roma €169m and Napoli €155m both follow.

The Diavolo’s wages to turnover ratio went down from 70% to 58%, which is the lowest figure for the club since 2006. By comparison, it was 93% in 2019-20, while Juventus are currently at 81% and Inter 76%. Only Atalanta are better at 51%.
