Massimiliano Allegri made some interesting statements after AC Milan’s win over Hellas Verona, which are a message to those above him.

Milan took an important step towards locking up a Champions League place as they beat struggling Hellas Verona 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. It was not a vintage performance nor spectacle, but Adrien Rabiot got the decisive goal just before half-time, from a Rafael Leao pass.

The Rossoneri even rode their luck at times against a side that are seemingly set to be relegated, but saw it out to move eight points clear of fifth place after Como and Roma failed to win. Napoli losing also means Milan are second again on goal difference.

Peppe Di Stefano spoke live on Sky (via MilanNews) after Milan’s win over Verona to give his interpretation of what Allegri said and the stories that he has made demands to the management.

“Allegri’s words on his future? Yes, but I would always wait until the end of the season. Because Allegri is very good at dodging questions. He wants a Milan with a future, yes, but also strong in the present.

“Next year, Milan must have only one goal: to win the league and do well in the Champions League. They must be a competitive Milan. Today is an important step towards the Champions League. Overall, it’s an excellent weekend for Milan, because they made a decisive move away from fifth place.”

The Sky reporter also shed some light on the build-up to the game and what Allegri did to try and ensure his side had the best chance of ending their difficult recent run.

“Allegri was perfect. He wanted to see the team through, but without raising his voice. He said a few things: get points, restore order, take care of the details. He also said ‘we all made mistakes,’ so he took responsibility.

“He gave them two days of rest, but they were managed intelligently. The message is clear: no drama, but we’re starting again now. I keep saying it: with another coach, Milan wouldn’t be in this position.”
