Walker Rashford

L’Equipe: Walker hypothesis slowing as Milan ‘prioritise’ attacking signing

AC Milan are currently weighing up the possibility of adding two Manchester-based players to their squad, but it seems either deal will impact the other substantially.

So far, the January mercato has been dominated by talk about Marcus Rashford, and in recent days, Kyle Walker has also taken a priority on the Rossoneri’s list. Questions can certainly be asked about both players, but Milan’s interest is there.

For Rashford, the Rossoneri desire another attacker, and the Englishman is a profile signing, that could provide a different option going forward. Walker, on the other hand, provides a completely opposite profile.

An ageing defender who could help cover a gap at right-back, whilst having a Simon Kjaer-esque impact for the squad.

For the Diavolo, it seems like it will be one or the other though, with both currently earning high wages in Manchester. Rashford’s wage would have to be halved to move to Milano and Walker’s situation is seemingly not much better.

As a result, L’Equipe (via Francesco Nasato) reports that Milan will make a move for one or the other, and right now, an attacking signing is being prioritised. The report also suggests that negotiations with the right-back have slowed, with no contractual offers being sent.

    1. Napoli is also talking to Rashford. That’s what real management does….add even more depth and quality even though they’re at the top of the table and try to lock down a title

  1. Why not give Jovic a chance? He is a good finnisher and great in two men formation like the 4-2-2 Conceicao wants. Stop playing Abraham he was given pleanty of chances and he is also a Roma player. If we play with two strikers, Colombo should be brought back as a back up too.

  2. I personally do not like the direction of which the transfer market is going right now (if the rumours are valid).

I don’t know what happened that we’re suddenly linked with two salary heavy players who are out of form at the moment. Maybe some ego are bruised and want to show off that we can actually splash the cash when needed, or maybe some people think that it is necessary step to ensure we claimed the CL spot at the end of the season. Whatever it is, I think these are all panic mode moves.

I strongly believe, even WITHOUT reinforcement, we would still manage to finish at the top 4, and with some luck, Serie A would probably get another slot, which means that finishing fifth also gets the ticket. There is no need to scramble through the market and see what big names we could attract. The problem in this team is not the quality of the individual, but the cohesion. I think the hiring of Sergio (even if the way of Fonseca’s firing was disrespectful and mishandled) and the consequent SuperCoppa victory brought some sense of togetherness back and hopefully we’ll be getting back on track in the second half of the season.

What the management should be doing is to make sure that most of these players are going to be here next season, and from the reports that suggest some of the renewals are imminent; that’s great. I personally think that EVEN if we missed out on CL, it might still be blessing in disguise, maybe we could then properly build a team under a proper, trusted manager, with the backing of the managements, and committed players. Just like what Napoli is doing this season. Of course it won’t be a good look for the excel sheets in the higher up, but that should serve as a good reminder for the rest of the tenure, so it wont be repeated.

In any case, I think Lazio, Fiorentina, Juventus and Bologna to lesser extent, can still be caught, even if we don’t bring anyone this January.

    1. You are very right, going after these two washed up players is not the right thing, a 34 year old and an over hyped kid who has lost all his drive and hunger, we need to buy young Italian players, it was also a mistake to let Okafor go, as you said the team if motivated properly and the coach knows how to use them, we can still make a difference, we could also upgrade some of our Futuro players permanently, Zeroli, Vos , Coubis , Berthasagi, and Alessio, or if we still want a striker / wide winger, we could go for David or even Dominic Carl Lewin…

  3. Hmmmm why not both? We need both based on their positions. Walker might even play DM who knows (Btw I’m fuzzy around the EU rules so there’s that)

  4. And why not BOTH???? NOT Walker AND Rashford – Non-EU rules preclude both English players

BUT we should be looking for BOTH positions and a DM this January: new Striker RB and a DM should all be priorities if we have any ambition to grab top 4 spot and support our new coach

Anything less is Embarassing. But you know we are cheap a$$ Redbird so….
