After the 1-1 draw between AC Milan and Inter, Kyle Walker spoke to a couple of journalists in the mixed zone. For the Englishman, it was not only his first Derby della Madonnina but also his debut for the Rossoneri.

Due to the injury of Emerson Royal, and Davide Calabria joining Bologna, Sergio Conceicao decided to start Kyle Walker for the derby against Inter. Overall, the Englishman did well and above all showed experience in the defensive phase, as highlighted in our player ratings.

Speaking to a couple of journalists in the mixed zone, as transcribed by Antonio Vitiello and MilanNews, Walker thanked the fans for the support. He also stated that the result could have been a lot better in the end for Milan.

On the debut…

“It’s an honour to make my debut for Milan today. Frustrating not to have gotten the three points but I am confident we will get many more. Thank you so much for the fantastic support, not just today but since I signed.”

On the game…

“The feeling from the game is good, the result less so, it could have been better. Conceding so close to the end… We have to take the point and move forward, it is important not to give up now. We have to build on this game and take the momentum to improve and move up the standings,” he stated.

Walker will likely play from start in the game against Roma on Wednesday, looking to build some momentum and regain top fitness. What’s clear is that his debut was very promising, and certainly better than what we have seen from Emerson Royal.

  1. So ragazzi, he play for you all which say he is old sh#t.. solid and definitely better then Calabria and Emerson . With him our defence looks much better ( yes, when Theo want to play better).
    Hope for better tomorrows

  2. I wonder if Conceicao will explore a 3 man back line more. It gives us alot more stability:

5-2-3 when defending. 3-4-3 when attacking. Theo and now Walker wont get left out 1 vs 1 and can press harder with a CB supporting them stopping shots and crosses more efficiently.

Also we arent left 2 vs 2 or 2 vs 3 when we lost the ball in the buildup stage. Leao and Pulisic can move in central from the flanks which is when they are at their best and Walker and Theo comes rushing along the flanks filling the empyt space they leave. Gimenez can focus on just being in the box.

    Maginan
    Thiaw-Tomori-Pavlovic
    Walker-Reijnders-Fofana-Theo
    Pulisic-Gimenez-Leao

I think what 11 would perform much better

    1. They couldn’t WIN EVEN Dinamo with centre back on right back side….

Let’s hope stronger names are in Milan in near future. And that will change the game.

  3. Walker was awesome, he became the leader of defense the second he stepped on the pitch. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Tomori and Pavlo had great games. He’s the veteran leadership we’ve missed since Kjaer, and he still looks very fast. What a debut.

    1. Agree the leadership is the most important thing. Something that this team has sorely lacked.

Coming from City where Pep obsessively fought for literally every trophy, including the minor domestic English ones, Walker won’t take any game or any opponent or any competition lightly.
The most important game is the next game. Period.

His form will only improve, but the leadership is already there. He will hold guys accountable, not just in games but in training.

      About time.

    2. Its no coincidence that Theo played better because now we have a FB that rivals his ability but who is much more accomplished. I am of the mind set that Theo and Leão see themselves as top of the team and they set the tone and now Walker comes into the team and takes that role over. Maybe with the sale of Tonali these two don’t see Gerry as a serious owner so why play as serious player?

  4. The extra time Inter goal was a gut punch but I’m hopeful we will have more clean sheets with walker’s arrival. So much better to play when ahead than when behind. Giminez will be a big upgrade.
