In the past few days the media have spoken about a choice between Kyle Walker and Marcus Rashford, and AC Milan seem to have made their decision.
Reports emerged yesterday suggesting that Milan are closing in on an agreement to sign Walker, who has made it known that he wishes to leave Manchester City after several successful years there to try something new.
This morning, some further updates have arrived, starting with one from Fabrizio Romano. He states that Milan ‘received the initial green light’ from Walker to join, with more contacts scheduled ‘in the next 24/48 hours’ to get the deal done between the clubs and proceed with formal steps.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Walker is ‘one step away’ from joining the Rossoneri and he will ‘almost certainly’ arrive. However, it will not be a permanent deal: instead, it will be a €1m loan with an option to buy set at €5m.
If the buy-out were triggered, he would sign a contract with Milan until 2027. Therefore, it is a temporary deal which becomes a sort of ‘internship’, so the club can take a look at him before deciding whether to commit to another two years.
In salary terms, City will pay Walker €6m from now until the summer of 2026, while Milan can offer him the same amount with a contract until 2027, therefore spreading the fee over several years of agreement.
Finally, Calciomercato.com add that the 34-year-old has shown ‘great enthusiasm’ towards the idea of signing for Milan and that has been noted by the management. In the last few hours an agreement has been found for a two-year contract worth around €4m plus bonuses per season.
Walker has currently given absolute priority to Milan and hopes to terminate his contract with City soon. The belief of the Milan directors is that he can play as a full-back, a centre-back and even a wing-back in a three-man defence.
I came to think about florenzi. Wonder whats gonna happen with him, will he ever find himself again after the injury.
The management was already pushing him out anyway. They’ll let him run out of contract. Too bad as he’s the best RB we’ve got (today).
He is 34 years old and He has missed entire 2 of the 4 years at Milan but sure let’s say that he is getting pushed out because he will only get better, healthier and younger, not worse, older and even more injury prone.
He’s the only leader (besides MM16) in the team and when he plays, he plays better than the other RBs. And he can even cover the LB position without a sweat. And I wasn’t suggesting he should be given a 7-year extension, now did I?
So we get Walker, Napoli sold Kvara for hefty sum, and they will get either Rashford or Garnacho or the other one.
Fair deal for all parties.
Walker is a good wise signing with positive impact on and off the field.
Worryingly, what are we going to do with emerson? Paid 15m, gave him 4 year 3.5m contract. Nobody is going to come for him. Not even the saudis which speaks volumes of how foolish Moncada is and how silly moneyball type signings are.. Add Origi & Ballo Toure to that list too..
Moneyball is based on analytics, there is no data to show Emerson is a good player. If we were using Moneyball, most of the players we signed wouldn’t have arrived. You don’t know what Moneyball is.
Why do we want to sign Walker ??
Can anyone help ?
Experience is important
You forgot the price’s also important for money balls.
To make up for the biggest mistake of the summer: wasting almost 20M€ on a brazilian trashcan.
I have read this twice and i still have no clue what is being said.
Its a loan for 1m plus 5m option
City pay him 6m
We pay him 6m
He is terminating contact
We are paying him 4m per year
????
City pay him his salary – 6m for the rest of the season (12m for the year). We pay city 1m as loan fee and 5m if we choose to buy at the end of the season. Effectively, we are covering Walker’s salary for the rest of the season.
Should we end up buying him. We are to hand Walker a contract worth 12m paid over 2 years. Effectively, Walker goes from his current 12m a year contract at City to a 6m a year contract at AC Milan.
It’s not 6 mil contract it is 4 million contract per year.
If Walker have excellent 6 months Milan will take him, if not they are probably not going to gamble with 34+ years old.
You failed to explain the part that says Walker hopes to terminate contract with City. Or maybe no one really get a full understanding of this confusing piece.
Considering it’s a low cost deal i really like it.
I hope it’s the loan with option to buy with city covering the salary.
He can be a short term solution in term of leadership and experience especially in the defense just like when we signed kjaer.
Cheap, short and not very expensive. So we didn’t take huge risks and this won’t end up like Origi, Ballo-Touré, Royal,…
Walker was a very good Right back till last season and he can play as a center-back. This season he has been suffering, but again since Rodri’s injury, every Manchester City player looks like a grade-schooler. He didn’t deal well with being a captain but it feels like he wants to rejuvinate, to improve again, so he might be hungry for win and has won multiple titles.
In his prime he was one of the best fullbacks of the recent years and even right now he is still probably faster, better at defending and crossing than Royal or even Calabria.
He is not a long term solution, but again since Calabria and Florenzi are probably going to be pushed out by the end of the season, that Jimenez is too green, that we lost Kalulu and that Emerson can’t play football, we will need to revamp the whole right back department anyways with starters and subs.
Now let’s try to deal with the crisis in the midfield shall we ?
Cheap, short and not very expensive salary*
Get Tiago Santos
Walker is well experienced and a very good baller. I hope Milan sign him permanently.
Inter Milan build their team with experienced players rejected by other clubs. Milan directors are lacking dexterity for signing Royal Emerson. Very useless sort of management.
Royal, florenzi, calabria, Jimenez, terraciano… on the left just Hernandez… no CAM, two dead strikers who find it hard to put the ball into an empty net. We are doomed
At least this would mean no more Emerson on the pitch. I’d call that a clear win to all Milan fans. 🙂
Not yet, we have to decide which player to be sold in RB
LOL. No one would buy any of our RBs. Some Turks might try to buy Calabria but he won’t leave there.
You woke up on the wrong side of the bed!
Strikers are made better by a better midfield. Our midfield is now the weak link (which I wouldn’t have said a month ago). It’s pulling down the effectiveness of our forward line.
TJ needs a rest. His play has declined dramatically since the new year.
I am expecting 1-2 midfield signings to give us depth. Reyna is a great talent with real field vision and creative in tight spaces. Hoping he will get a run at San Siro. Seeing him, Leao and Pulisic on the field would be exciting.
What are you talking about? Reyna is the most injury prone player in the world, he is beyond useless.
Awesome!!! I mean, zero risk deal. If (LOL!) he turns out to better than the RBs we’ve got, we’ve fixed the problematic RB position for 1,5 years. If not, his loan and salary won’t make us bankrupt either. Win-win. If true, this might be the best piece of business our current management has done.
If he does come, I’ll buy a round beer for everyone as it would mean benching Emerson. It’s like Christmas came REALLY early this year (or late from last year). Either way, I’d be thrilled.
I really don’t understand why people are hating on Walker. The guy won 6 premier league titles and a UCL title. He’s a winner and he brings that mentality. Yes, his age is not ideal but we can’t afford a young guy with walker’s quality so it is what it is.
Everyone has been slamming Emerson and Calabria (rightfully so). Walker on his worst day is a better RB than both of them combined.
People love to hate. And complain. You’ve seen the comments here, right? For every positive comment, there are 10 negative ones. I admit being one to add those negative comments but it’s not my fault that the management wasted ~20M€ on the Brazilian trashcan. He deserves all the cr4p he gets. And the management too for buying him. 🙂
Walker? He’s our fng saviour! He’ll come and free us from the pain of watching Emerson play week after week. How awesome is that?! 🙂
Baby i got ya money dont you worries eheeey
It may be Walker and Emerson as the 2 RBs. with Calabria being the one moved out. Walker often plays on the right side of a City back 3. So he can play centrally as well as RB. Either way I see Walker as an improvement on what we have at RB.
