Watch: Giroud opens his account for the season after lovely Reijnders assist

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud didn’t take long to open his account for the new Serie A season as he produced a trademark instinctive finish to make it 1-0 against Bologna.

With their first real threatening attack of the game, Milan took the lead inside the 12th minute. A cross from Pulisic on his favoured left foot went deep to the other side of the box, where Reijnders was waiting to lay the ball back across goal first time, and Giroud tucked in from a narrow angle.

    1. Who wrote him off???? Nobody. He needs help at 37 yrs of age and can’t expect him to play every game. It’s game one. Not game 27. He cannot play every 3 days. We need another striker so he can be saved for big games and UCL. Cannot rely on Columbo as the backup.

      Again – making up stories.

      1. I very much agree that he needs competition. I’m referencing actual comments calling him finished and whatnot during the preseason.

      2. “Who wrote him off???? Nobody. ”
        “Again – making up stories.”

LOL. It’s – once again – you who is making up stories. Go ahead and read the comments after each friendly match and you’ll see plenty of “Giroud is finished”-rants.

      1. Lol Rejndeers assits ones, “he is way better than Tonali.” Meanwhile Tonali scores and sets up 3 more goals for Newcastle in their first game…

        1. And Tonali did absolutely nothing in the second game! Try again. Reijnders is overall a better player technically. These fanboys.

          1. And Man City did worse to Real who schooled Milan by the way, cause City are the best team in the world. So what is your point ? Bashing someone for a game against City while prasing someone for a tap in assist against Bologna lol. Talking about fanboys.

        2. And then disappears into a Black Hole when he plays his second match for Newcastle against Man City instead of against Aston Villa

  1. He’s still working hard defensively too, harassing Bologna defence into errors. Superb layoffs and touches too, will be so hard to find someone to replicate that (now Morata isn’t an option).

  2. The attacking flow is already better than last season. Reinforcements too disruptive huh? Finally attack from the right side. Leao needs to do better though IMO.

  3. Solid in attack – Pulisic lively. Not completely one sided any longer. Reinjders is fantastic. Said he would be steal of season and looks like it. Spreads the ball around with ease and tracks back. Wonderful.

Not sure how we have to keep one of Pulisic and Chukuweze on bench. Both make too much $$ to sit and both can be game changers. Can see us eventually moving back to 4-2-3-1 to accommodate both Pulsic and Chuk with RLC and Reinjders as holders? Maybe too offensive??? lol.

Not sure about anyone else but Dominguez is not noticeable at all. Harsh perhaps with lack of supporting cast…?

    Great start!

    1. Agree with Reijnders, he’s covering ground and nice touch.

With Chukwueze and the other attackers, there’s not going to be an issue getting game time – injuries, rotation and maybe formation changes means whoever isn’t starting will get plenty of chances. If we’d had the depth last season the likes of Giroud and Leao wouldn’t have been quite so tired for the second half of the season perhaps.

    2. They’re playing a 4231 which is limiting Dominguez. Didn’t realize Motta changed formation for this year and he also lost some players but didnt get any. Players like Medel who work hard in the defensive phase . When they revert to their quasi 433 and he’s in the centre he’s way more comfy on the ball.

    3. We got two strong RWs because of 3 competitions. We want to do great in all three right? Even the Coppa Italia we need to take more seriously

      At least that’s my thought

  4. Reijnders seems already to be a great signing. He’s fast, intelligent, also gifted with tatical awarereness and overall intensity. Pulisic and Giroud doing great too,

  5. Where are the people who wrote off Reinjnders because he is uncapped for Netherlands and only had experience playing in weak league?
