AC Milan have Olivier Giroud to thank for the fact that they emerged from Genoa with all three points after Mike Maignan’s red card.
Maignan was sent off for having adjudged to have used a high knee when claiming a ball outside the box, and with all the substitutes having been used it meant an outfield player had to go in goal.
Giroud took the gloves and was hoping for a quiet last few minutes, but he instantly saw a free-kick deflect onto the crossbar and then Genoa had their goalkeeper sent off for a second yellow card from the resulting corner.
That might have felt like enough to see out the win, yet the Frenchman was called into action in the dying seconds, rushing out off his line to make a fantastic block to save what would have surely been an equaliser.
