Watch: Hernandez jogs back and leaves Parma to score two gifted goals

Theo Hernandez has been heavily criticised by the AC Milan fans for his performance against Parma last night and rightfully so. Throughout the clash, he didn’t seem willing to help out and that was seen especially on the second goal.

The Frenchman hasn’t been training as much as the rest given the Euros vacation, but that is certainly no excuse for what we saw yesterday. He was given a 4.5/10 in our player ratings for a work-rate that was nothing short of embarrassing.

On the first goal, he failed to pick up Dennis Man on the box despite being well within reach of doing so, all it took was some willingness. And on the second goal, as you can see in the videos below, he was nowhere to be seen as he chose to jog back.

Admittedly, Strahinja Pavlovic could have done better on that goal too as he chose to pick up the man in the centre instead. However, Hernandez hung him out to dry and although his excuse (as also seen in the videos) was that he was too high up the pitch, the full angle shows he certainly wasn’t further ahead of Rafael Leao – who played the poor pass – and thus could have made it back in time.

  1. Everyone performed horrendously yesterday, with maybe only exception Pavlovic, without him I think we would have ended up with more goals, Calabria lost 100% of his duels and was extremely mediocre despite having participated in the whole preseason, Musah was out , RLC and I said it zillion times can never be a 10 and he ends up playing the whole game… We failed on every possible level, I agree Theo is to be blamed but there are much bigger concerning signs on a collective level

    1. What’s a ‘duel’?

      Is that where you’re 2 v 1?

Doesn’t seem to be much of a duel. It’s certainly not very gentlemanly.

          1. He doesn’t know whether to commit or follow he man and he hesitates and ends up taking neither of them. It’s always been an issue with his positioning. But in the very little I saw emerson, Calabria will be starting.

        1. Sorry there’s no ‘positioning’ that can make you miraculously take on 2 men at the same time especially when there’s an overlap.

I’m just going to call it.

Calabria is an elite full back playing in one of the best teams in the world (yes Milan are in the top 50) so I think he knows more about positioning than you do on your armchair.

Now go find another team if you can’t stand behind our captain.

          1. Have you ever heard the term ‘take the man, the ball or both’. Instead Calabria thinks about it then backs off while that guy makes his run and gets in behind. Either attack the man with the ball or follow the run. Don’t stand in the middle of it. Its common football knowledge.

        2. Y’all need to stop this fake point of fingers. Dude did well defensively. 2 v 1, a resemble defender will not commit to either till he sees an opening. If the coach can’t see that he is not the fastest and not push him too high up with all your midfield playing high line too when sprinting back is an issue, that’s on him not the players.

  2. He is either trying to force renewal talks or his sale, though this looks more like latter. Whatever it is it needs to happen fast or he needs to be benched till he get his head on straight. We have kids in futuro just waiting for a chance.

  3. Obviously not willing to bleed for Fonseca. So far Fonseca = no energy, no ability to transmit ideas.

Theo is a tragic symbol of the choices made by the Milan leadership before the summer.

    1. yeah because De Zerbi would’ve won everything if he came, such a revolutionary manager than everyone wanted this summer according to your delusions but ended up going to a mid table club in France

      nice logic

    2. 100% agree.. this happen coz milan right now dont have “maldini roles” – which is cardinale think they no need this roles anymore. Maldini is a co-axis between player-management-coach, not someone can easily replace even a big player as ibra. Last season player already familiar with pioli, which is coach supported by maldini, when maldini gone, crack already widen, now no one cannot hide it.. its a long season…

  4. “Admittedly, Strahinja Pavlovic could have done better on that goal too as he chose to pick up the man in the centre instead. ”

WTF?! Have you even played football? Like ever? As a CB if you see a wide open opponent in front of you, of course you’ll mark him over anyone behind you as there might be another teammate behind the player behind you. Pavlovic saw no one was marking the man in front of him so naturally he chose to go near him. Just like any good defender would have done.

RIDICULOUS to blame him for the goal.

  5. said it like a true Milan fan that likes it non-lubed. you are what’s wrong with the team when you don’t call it for what it is, even when the team is playing as bad as last night you still deny it as if that makes you a better fan.

  6. Well said.Theo needs to train or change position tol eft midfield, and play Teraciamo as a left back. Right back is not solid with Calabria and Emersone. Milan needs to spent more and buy quality players period.I think with Vlavic, Fofana and Morata they are very good sighnings,we need a proper formular. Benacer should always start alongside Fofanaax a defensive mid duo .Then we need to play Rainders as box to box and rest Loftus Cheek.Tgen we need to play Chukwuweza and Saelemakers as wingers as they work hard and fall back to deffend. That is my opinion, pulisic and Leo should come as subs alongside Musa who is a hard worker.
    Thanks.

  7. Such blatant failures on an individual level are more of an indication of a collective disfunction. This isn’t the Theo of last season.

There’s something else at play. Fonseca’s system may be too hard to understand/execute at this point.

Until he drills it in, he would be wise to switch to a more balanced 433 and use Bennacer with Fofana in the middle.
