Watch: Jovic nets against Sassuolo to make it a one-goal game again

By Oliver Fisher -

Luka Jovic got his name on the scoresheet for AC Milan as he provided an instinctive finish to get his side back into the game against Sassuolo.

Not long after the home side had restored their two-goal lead through Lauriente, Milan once again made it a one-goal game.

The ball was worked wide to Leao who tried a cross with the outside of his boot that Consigli could only push into the path of Jovic, with the Serbian striker firing into a virtually empty net first time.

  1. Aynone surprised to see Jovic score only after getting Giroud to play next to him? I’m not. I’ve been saying that for years now that he cannot play as the lone striker. One more proof.

      1. You do you realize that CBs play differently when there’s two strikers to defend instead of one (ie. twice as many opponents to mark)? Even 7-year-olds know that.

        1. It was a purely opportunistic goal where the deflection fell to his feet. No defender would be playing Jovic there by standing in front of him even if Giroud wasn’t there.

          1. So you’re suggesting a team with 2 CBs playing against a one striker team the two CBs would only position themselves based on the ball and neither of them would follow/mark the lone striker? Sounds like a suitable tactics for a team who wants to lose every match and concede a helluva lot of goals. Of course one the CBs would follow the striker where ever he went inside the penalty box and stay between him and the ball. At least he should if we understood anything about the game. 🙂
