There was an incredible moment for Rafael Leao this evening as he not only made his first ever World Cup appearance for Portugal but he also marked it with a goal.
The decision was made by Portugal’s head coach Fernando Santos to start Leao on the bench, but less than three minutes after coming on he netted with a trademark finish, opening his body up and curling the ball inside the far post having been fed inside the box.

Leao may have been born in Portugal and plays for its national team, but he was made in Milan – a product of Milanello’s superior Italian footballing knowhow. He and the Rossoneri’s other stars (Theo, Giroud) are lighting up the World Cup. AC Milan must keep its rampaging Portuguese predator and the other key components of its current team and build around them – not sell them or otherwise give them away to the EPL, PSG, and Real Madrid – if it wants to reach the summit in Europe in the next few years. Otherwise, we’re going to have to wait for at least another decade before we sit at the top table again. Surely RedBird, with its links to American and other international investors, can find a financial solution to the problem of retaining AC Milan’s best players? Papa Pioli, Don Paolo, and their technical crew, have done a masterful job in assembling the skeleton of a potentially great AC Milan team. Now it’s up to Gerry Cardinale and Giorgio Furlani to back them up with the economic muscle required to keep that skeleton intact and make it even stronger.
No matter what Milan do, they can NEVER match the offers from ManCity, PSG, Real etc.
In the end it all comes down to how much money Leao’s entourage wants.
