Watch: Pioli convinced Milan are ‘returning to our former level’ despite Empoli draw

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli made five changes to the starting XI against Empoli and the rotation backfired as AC Milan only managed a 0-0 draw. After the game, he admitted that the Rossoneri lacked what was needed to win.

Milan had full control of the game and the defence performed as you would expect, perhaps even better. Up front, on the other hand, Pioli’s men had big struggles as the backups failed to impress – above all Divock Origi.

Speaking to MilanTV after the game (see video below), Pioli shared his frustration over the fact that Milan lacked the final touch. “This was a negative result for us. But with regards to the team’s fluidity, energy and attitude, I think we are returning to our former level,” he said among other things.

  1. I believe the same but that does not excuse the poor choice to play Origi when it’s clear as day he’s just not good enough

  2. It happenes to many teams that the ball doesnt want to get in. And Origi should have been given a chance to prove, so there is also no mistake in my opinion. Would have tried CDK in front tho, but maybe he isnt training to play there so this might also be an excuse. I hope we get past Napoli, would have like to win 4-0 in CL rather than the league, but we need CL qualification so every point counts.
