The refereeing performance of Daniele Chiffi has come under scrutiny after a big call that he made during the first half of AC Milan’s win against Udinese tonight.
Just before the half-hour mark, Chiffi made a very controversial decision as he sent Reijnders off for a last-man challenge. Quite how Lovric had got in behind remains questionable, yet there appeared to be minimal contact between the two before the midfielder threw himself to the ground.
The red card was brandished and it remained, but thankfully Milan would hold on for a valiant 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Samuel Chukwueze that came before the decision, and there was further late VAR drama with the away side seeing a goal chalked off in the 95th minute.

Reinjders got beat, dont get beat.
He didn’t get beat. He was trying to help and track back because Terracciano was nowhere to be seen. He ran after the guy because nobody else was marking that guy. That’s on Terracciano who had that sector, not on Reijnders.
I still have my doubts that Reijnders actually touched that diver. Some people here do seem to have seen his leg clipping the guy’s foot and if it’s the case then maybe the decision is not as controversial but still, I’ve read serious refereeing analysts on TV and press, saying that this red was wrong (I agree). I think the Udinese player deserved a yellow for simulation more than Reijnders deserved a red.
When you then couple that with not even a yellow being shown to the guy who criminally stepped on Chuk’s foot then stepped again on his ankle and twisted his cleats, the decision on Reijnders becomes even more puzzling.
OK, let’s say Reijnders indeed should have been shown the red. Then, the Udinese guy who dangerously jeopardized Chuk’s livelihood (could have broken his ankle) should have been shown one too, which would have cancelled Udinese’s man advantage. That’s pretty inconsistent.
The ref values the slightest of touches but ignores that nasty and reckless offense that had Chuk in excruciating pain? Whoa! Not to forget that two Udinese players elbowed our guys and weren’t even shown a yellow.
I agree, but with one exception, Pavlovic was the real reason Lovric was able to freely make the breakthrough, not Terracciano. Although Terracciano should have been playing deeper to cover, Pavlovic had charged the ball rather brashly just before it was passed to Lovric. As much as I want to like Pavlovic his decision making and positioning needs to improve.
If you watch the replays you can see TR eyes were on the ball and his movement was too. The Udine player eyes were not and was intending to collide.
Use some logic. The only way that attacker to fell on his back is if he was tugged by Reijnders. No hands on him. It is clearly a diving. Reijnder was touching him with his body, so the manner of his falling is against the force. There is no way he fell because of Reijnders.
If it’s a foul, than that situation is a red card situation, but that’s definitely not a foul.
Reijnders touched the foot of udinese player, which disrupted his run.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a not intentional or intentional, there’s no Milan Infront of udinese player so it’s a red.
There’s no controversy here, but it’s more on other decisions
Italian ref are losing.
I still doesn’t see it. and from the front view the player even more clearly takes a leap into the air from what i initially could see.
Maybe he tripped over his own legs, but the contact was minimal, but the point about Terricano being missing is well made, I don’t know if it’s just me or he at times is scared to get the ball, I personally feel he is holding up the development of both Barestagi and Jimminez
to be fair I think Terraciano had a pretty good game so actually glad he played. Personally I think Bartesaghi should be reverted to a cb as he is simply too tall for a back in my view.
You can watch replay, reijnders touched the foot and it disrupted his run. As there was no Milan player, it’s a red card. Maybe it’s not intentional from reijnders but it’s a foul as per the rule.
Controversy is more on other decisions, not on this.
I get last man will get a red card but I didnt see it in the match or in this clip.
If it was Barella and not Reijnders, VAR would have overturned that decision..
Fr why is every red against us it becomes insane at that point. How many yellow card fouls this the Udinese player make, yet didn’t receive any yellows for it. Only if they came and conplained they go a yellow of this trash ref
Yes, violent fouls by Udinese players didn’t even get a yellow. Almost all yellows given to Udinese were for dissent; that is, the ref has a big ego and doesn’t want to be challenged, but he couldn’t care less if a guy almost breaks Chuck’s ankle.
And then, he pushed the game to 112 minutes!!! Nothing justified 12 minutes of stoppage time. He seemed to want to see Udinese tie the game.
The decisions who went against Udinese were actually sponsored by VAR, not by this incompetent and/or biased ref.
This was extremely bad and unfair officiating. It’s only because of our guys’ heroic effort that the ref didn’t succeed in preventing Milan’s victory.
The MOTM for Udinese was the ref.
That red card was simulation and should have been yellow card for that Udinese diver.
As for the Udinese player who stomped on Chukwueze foot, that is a straight red card. Shameful refereeing. Serie A referees are corrupt.
I made an upscaled 4K 120fps video of the segment where Lovric fell down in front of Reijnders and uploaded it to youtube. You can find the video by searching for the title:
“Lovric trips himself to get Reijnders red carded”.
no it’s no red, even not a foul, Lovric clearly diving..
but if u anti-Italian then whole Italian will anti-u, just like 90’s merda
Lovric initiated contact.
Then they stomped Chukwueze ankle. and nothing
Caitlin Clark would be dead if he play as a professional football players in Serie A.
There was no contact, you can’t get sent off for brushing someone with your upper body. You see far more pushing in the penalty area during corners.
Where I come from, we have have an expression that loosely translated says”If what Moses does shocks you, wait till its Pharaoh’s turn to be truly shocked” In context, we all know that we always hold the short end of the stick in the CL when it comes to referee decisions. With Club Brugge next week or Real Madrid after, I won’t be surprised if the refs cock it up even worse than yesterday (as usual) so it’s on us to ensure the Ref has no effect on the results by handing out thrashings!!! Red card us, deny us a penalty, heck even award a dubious penalty or goal against us. Matters not if we’re 3 or 4 goals up by then! Defensive focus and ruthless finishing is what we lack tbh. This is why stupid ref decisions have such an impact on our results. Esp v lesser teams, we must kill games off ASAP. For as long as we lose focus like Tomori did v Bologna or miss opportunities like that one Tammy did yesterday on his left foot, we are subject to whims and incompetences of Referees. Defensive focus and ruthless finishing! That is our main onfield issue.
Reijnders left knee, player right heel. Dude got contact. U can’t simulate that sort of contact the way his foot moved after the foul. Deer boy will have to learn from it
