Watch: Walker tries to stop Alli red card as Gabbia looks on with confusion

Dele Alli was sent off just ten minutes after coming off the bench for Como against AC Milan. As the referee was about to show the red card, Kyle Walker tried to stop him.

Milan came away with all three points in their usual fashion, i.e. a comeback win, against Como last night. While the away side pushed for an equaliser towards the end, they were somewhat brought to a halt by Dele Alli, who was sent off in the 91st minute, just ten minutes after coming on.

The Englishman was initially shown a yellow card for a nasty challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but after a VAR check, it was changed to a red card. As the referee Matteo Marchetti was about to show the red card, Walker ran over and tried to convince him not to.

Matteo Gabbia looked very confused as it all unfolded and questioned Walker’s actions, as you can see in the video below (2:05 minutes in). While one can understand why the right-back did it (given Alli’s tough past), it’s equally true that Milan needed the three points and the red card helped.

The reactions on social media, as such, have been mixed among the fans.

  1. Don’t sign him. You are a Milan player, they guy could have injured Loftus Cheek seriously. No Milan player has a place doing this.

    1. If it wasn’t a red card and he saw that, it would be ok. Fair play is always ok, and real men don’t lie to gain advantage. But to try to stop the referee to give a deserved red card to the opponent is something I didn’t think I will ever see. Even if it is your brother it is irrelevant.

  2. I think walker owe something with Ali. But if you weared red black. You can’t act like you’re wearing three lions shirt.
100 % should be red and black
    Shame on you..

  3. Walker pitied Ali because Ali was just returning back from depression after 2 years of absence from football. That red card can stay for years in the history of Ali.

    1. So what? Is he a Milan player or not? Maybe next season Milan will play City and what will Walker do? Maybe ask the referee not to give a card to someone because their mother died last week?

I agree he did it because of that, but there is no place to do that when it was a 100% red card. Disgraceful, I wouldn’t get him for free and if he wanted to play for free after this.

      1. The game is played by real people with normal lives and emotions.
In that moment he obviously felt for his friend who had been through a lot and didn’t want him to have a further setback.

But equally RLC has had shocking injury runs in his career and that tackle nearly put him out of action again for weeks.

        Definitely a strange situation.
It will be interesting to see if there is a reaction by the club.

        1. Great. He shouldn’t be signed or paid by Milan after this. He can do whatever he wants, I didn’t say that. But not as a Milan player.

        2. But let me just add, game is played by real people with normal lives? Walkers life is normal? He is literally mentally impaired 15 year old guy. Stuck at 15. If he wasn’t a footballer he would have a normal life and would flip burgers at McDonalds if he could wake up every day.

      2. Disgraceful? For having feelings? LOL. You seem to be a wonderful human being. Walker SHOULD HAVE KILLED Alli, right? For kicking our player.

    1. Act of sportmanship? did you see the tackle?? that tackle was so nasty that it could easily break Loftus leg and he is just coming back from along time of injury as well.

    2. Yes, I can come to your house and break your arms and then your friend who will come and defend him is the humane guy that is right? You don’t understand what is sportsmanship. It 100% isn’t defending your friend even though it was a clear red card. Fabregas said it is disgraceful from Dele Alli. But Walker and Milan “fans” don’t agree.

  4. Walker is mot a milanista yet. Its hatd to find a milanista playing for red n black now. Look at cutrone, that guy was an average player but u can see that he still have it in his heart. If only this management give a milanista a chance. If they cant play riight then sell them. Im so worried about camarda future now. Were so unlucky that only puli n tiji who have that grinta and perform. The others either have taletnt or grinta (running around like headless chicken) when the talented guys became lazy then the others wont have the chemistry to play. It infectious.

  5. He needs to be benched for what he did. It’s unfortunate that we are struggling so much, but the fact is that not getting that red card could have cost us the win. Not cool.

  6. Come on guys! It was the 91st minute. Are Milan that desperate for points and cannot keep a lead for a couple of minutes? Oh, now I realize, they are on 47 points in 8th place! Long way to go to the top!!!

  7. Acmilan must beat Napoli at all cost which means our defence must be at alert 100% and we study their tactics and formation 3-5-2.

  8. Its not so much the two played together at Spurs and England, are probably friends, or a sense of fair play, its the fact that Delle Ali has a tragic back story and has bee nout for years, and he probably felt a bit of compassion for him. I don’t think Walker should be rebuked in this case for stepping in, although i can see why some fans might be annoyed.

  9. I could understand the hate if we had lost or even drew the match. We won ppl, and dude still got the red card.
Anyway, we boo’ed our own players after winning the game so what’s new with Milan fans.
